Edge of Tomorrow premiered on June 6, 2014, and lead star Tom Cruise didn’t let the opportunity slip and praised the sci-fi film. His message also seemingly included a tease for Edge of Tomorrow 2.
Tom Cruise hopped on his Instagram on June 6 to praise the sci-fi film and its crew. The film had Doug Liman at the helm, and also starred Academy Award-nominated actress Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton with a script by Mission: Impossible writer Christopher McQuarrie, Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where an alien race has taken over the world, and Cruise’s character, Williams Cage, finds himself in a time loop as he tries to fight the invaders.
“It’s been 10 years since Edge of Tomorrow first hit theaters!,” Cruise began his message, which included a clip from the critically acclaimed sci-fi film. “I want to take the opportunity to thank Emily Blunt once again for being such a great friend and brilliant actress. I love her performance in this film. Her dedication. Her humor. Her vulnerability and power. She brought it all.” He continued to praise the rest of the crew, noting that, “This anniversary brings back incredible memories. My first collaboration with Doug Liman. Rejoining the indomitable Brendan Gleeson. And my first time working alongside the great Bill Paxton. His performance and the character he created left an indelible mark on this film.”
“Hitting this kind of tone was no easy task,” Cruise revealed. “The writing and storytelling of Christopher McQuarrie made the movie work. Along with the dedication of our entire team who helped bring it to the screen — it was an absolute joy creating it with you all.”
Cruise also seemed to tease the highly-anticipated sequel, ending his message by thanking fans and teasing “great” upcoming projects. “To everyone who has enjoyed this film over the years, thank you for being a fan. And thank you to Warner Bros. for making this film. I can’t wait to share more about the great movies we’re working on.”
