Exciting Addition to Future Crime Thriller
Amazon MGM Studios is adding some heavy-weight (well technically, middle-weight) talent to their forthcoming sci-fi thriller Mercy with the addition of boxer-turned-actor Kali Reis to a cast that already features Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. The new role comes off her critically acclaimed turn in HBO’s critically acclaimed True Detective: Night Country, in which she won raves (and many, many fans) playing Trooper Evangeline Navarro opposite co-star Jodie Foster.

According to Deadline, The movie, from director Timur Bekmambetov, is set in the near future when capital crime has increased. A detective (Pratt) has been accused of a violent crime and is forced to prove his innocence.

Who’s Behind It

Bekmambetov, the director of Wanted and the Russian vampire franchise Night Watch and Day Watch is helming the sci-fi thriller from a script penned by Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin). Producer Charles Roven, who just snagged an Academy Award for Best Picture as a producer on Oppenheimer, brought the picture to Amazon MGM and is producing the feature with Atlas Entertainment SVP Robert Amidon alongside Bekmambetov’s BEL banner and Majd Nassif.

Big Swings From a Rising Star
In just three years, multi-world-title-winning boxer Kali Reis has gone from knocking people out in the squared circle to going toe-to-toe on screen with heavy hitters like Jodie Foster. An intense and striking presence, she’s earned plenty of fans and critical praise along the way. She made her film debut starring in 2021’s Catch The Fair, which she also co-wrote. Reis can also be seen in the thriller Asphalt City opposite Sean Penn, Tye Sheridan, and Mike Tyson, which is currently in theatres. She will also be featured in Wind River: Rising, Castle Rock Entertainment’s forthcoming sequel to Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed 2017 drama.
