Watch the Incredible Six-Minute Tracking Shot from Sunday’s Episode of TRUE DETECTIVE

HBO’s True Detective is one of the best things happening right now; not just in TV, but across any medium.  The ambitious anthology series follows two detectives played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as they recount, in frame story, a case they worked in the 1990s.  All eight episodes of the first season were written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga (Sin NombreJane Eyre), bringing a fantastic consistency and cohesiveness to each episode.  The performances by McConaughey and Harrelson are absolutely phenomenal, the storytelling is unendingly compelling and thought-provoking, and Fukunaga’s direction is inspired.

Watch: The Amazing Full 6-Minute Tracking Shot From 'True Detective'

This past Sunday’s episode “Who Goes There” concluded with a six-minute long intricate, intense tracking shot that showcases the very best of what True Detective has to offer, and the shot is now available online to watch in all its glory.  It’s a jaw-dropping piece of work that speaks volumes about the talent involved in this show.  Watch the shot after the jump, and if you haven’t seen True Detective yet, I highly suggest rectifying that immediately.

In case you were wondering, Fukunaga confirmed to MTV that this is indeed one shot. He built in possible edit points in case they needed them, but in the end he got the shot exactly as he planned.  Read his illuminating interview about how he pulled it off over at MTV.
