Every fan of superstar Keanu Reeves has seen the classic photo of him eating a sandwich. Depending on the angle you view the scene from (and there were plenty of paparazzi shots to choose from), Keanu even looked a bit depressed about his choice of meal.

Keanu’s even spoken out about the now-iconic photograph, saying he wishes he hadn’t had the photo snapped of him while he was on a park bench enjoying lunch.

But sandwiches aren’t the only thing the actor eats, and he doesn’t always look sad about what’s on his plate, either. While that one snapshot made Keanu’s diet and daily life look dull, it’s anything but.

After all, the guy’s a millionaire, so he could have a personal chef prep meals worthy of a king.

But who’s to say Keanu wasn’t wearing a character that day he noshed on a sandwich from a plastic bag? There are plenty of Keanu Reeves performances that fans shouldn’t miss, and not all of them are upbeat characters.

The actor has also starred in a handful of comedies that are worth their weight in gold, which should maybe stop fans from donating to the cheer-up-Keanu campaign. After all, the odds are low that he’s actually unhappy with his life.

Alright, now that fans are clear that Keanu isn’t always noshing on cold sandwiches on park benches, what does the ‘John Wick’ star eat?

Keanu’s a private guy, after all, so all fans have to go off of are paparazzi snapshots. Fortunately, Men’s Journal got the info straight from the actor himself.

When it came to filming for ‘John Wick’ (and similarly demanding roles), Keanu turned to a strict training diet. He’d eat things that were low-sodium and low-fat, including a piece of NY steak before fight scenes. Per Food Network, the tradition began back when Keanu was in ‘The Matrix.’

But when he’s not sculpting his physique for a movie, Keanu appears to enjoy pizza, salad, and, of course, sandwiches, Food Network explained in a collection of Keanu food moments. It’s easy to find multiple snapshots of the actor sharing pizza with friends (including the above, which looks like a celebratory dessert pizza of sorts), plus dining al fresco in a variety of restaurants across various cities.

Food Network also highlights that in another interview, Keanu said he enjoys red wine or a single malt in his downtime. It isn’t food, of course, but qualifies as a side dish for most folks, anyhow.
