Like many celebrity family members who get scrutinised by the media, Jeremy has had his fair share of controversies.

According to reports in the British media, Jeremy was sent to prison at the age of 22 due to non-compliance with the probation terms imposed on him. He faced criticism again in 2014 when it was revealed he’d been partying with his then-19-year-old son hours before the pop icon was arrested for racing a Lamborghini while allegedly under the influence of drink and drugs. According to The Guardian, Jeremy – then 38 – had even helped “block off streets so his intoxicated son could drag race the rented car”.

In June 2023, he caused a stir once more when he posted an “offensive” message about Pride Month on X, formerly Twitter, according to The Independent. “Don’t forget to thank a straight person this month for your existence,” it read.

Not all netizens were impressed by either tweet though, as TMZ reported at the time, sharing some of the public backlash on social media.

Biebs has undoubtedly had his ups and downs with his father. The “Baby” singer previously told Billboard in 2015 that he believed his dad was “not in a place where he could raise a kid” in his younger years. “He was immature. He left for like a year when I was about four, went to British Columbia, came back on Father’s Day,” Justin recalled. “I remember my mum said, ‘If you’re going to be here, you have to be here.’ There’s a misconception that he’s this deadbeat dad, but he has been in my life since. I was with him on weekends and Wednesdays.”

It seems they’ve become closer over the years. In 2022, Justin wrote on Instagram, “Love you pops! Happy Father’s Day! So much to look forward to. Best is still ahead of us! Honoured to be your son.”
