From season 3’s final scene shows Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) with shorter hair, a detail that has larger implications for the show’s future. Julie’s story takes a particularly unexpected turn in From season 3, episode 8 when she enters the dungeon ruins and begins traveling through time. She is revealed to be the one who threw the rope to Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) in the season 2 premiere, at the behest of the captive Martin (Robert Verlaque).
Being able to travel through time immediately sets Julie apart from the other From characters. She discusses the experience with her mother, Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) in From season 3, episode 9 and with her brother, Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) in the season 3 finale, in an attempt to better understand her experience. Now that the time travel door has been opened, it is set to dictate Julie’s future, and explains why her hair is shorter in the season 3 finale’s last scene.
Julie In From Season 3’s Final Scene Is From The Future
She Tries And Fails To Change Her Father’s Fate
The Julie who appears in From season 3’s final scene knows that her father, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey), is about to be killed by the Man in the Yellow Suit (Douglas E. Hughes), as she says, “It’s not safe” and “I think this is when it happens.” She tries to convince her father to go back to Town and emphasizes that “I need to change the story.” This future version of Julie has traveled back in time to try and save Jim, even though Ethan already told her that she cannot change the story once it has already been told.
Julie’s attempt to change the past proves unsuccessful as a confused Jim does not heed her warning before the Man in the Yellow Suit appears. She tries to physically pull the Man in the Yellow Suit away from her father, but he easily pushes her aside, and proceeds to rip Jim’s throat out. Even though this future version of Julie knows how Jim died and figured out how to time travel to the exact moment when it happened, she is still unable to change his fate.

Julie’s Short Hair & Injuries Look Like Her Future Self Has Been Held Captive
This Could Connect Back To An Early Season 1 Moment
Julie’s time travel continuing in From season 4 is set up by the season 3 finale, which teases her arduous journey. The bloody scratches on Julie’s face and her shorter hair indicate that this future version of her has been through a great deal of change and harrowing challenges. Since she has figured out how to arrive at a specific point in time and is still determined “to change the story,” this may not be the first time she has tried to change the timeline.
Ethan refers to Julie’s time travel as her being a “story walker.”
Her previous attempts may have involved a particularly close call with From‘s monsters, who may be responsible for the bloody scratches on her face. In season 1, episode 2, one of the monsters, who looks like a teenage boy, says, “Julie, don’t you recognize me?” This monster may have already met Julie because of her time travel, in which he tries to kill her, although the Julie of season 1 had not experienced this yet. While that exact scenario may not come to fruition, From‘s future seasons will reveal more about the horrors Julie experiences during her time travel.
