True Detective star Jodie Foster says she’s a huge fan of fellow Primetime Emmy nominee Baby Reindeer.

Foster is up for her first-ever Emmy nomination for acting with True Detective: Night Country, where she scored a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Foster has also been nominated as one of the producers of True Detective: Night Country, which is up for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

One of True Detective: Night Country’s competitors in Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie race is Baby Reindeer, but that hasn’t stopped Foster from praising the smash Netflix series.

“I love Baby Reindeer. Every actor I know can’t stop talking about Baby Reindeer,” Foster recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s one of the most exciting pieces of television I’ve seen in years, and it’s attempted to do something that really just hasn’t been done. So yeah, I mean, I think that was the big revelation for me this year. That was my favorite, besides True Detective.”

The fourth season in Max’s True Detective anthology series, True Detective: Night Country is up for 19 Primetime Emmy Awards while Baby Reindeer is vying for 11.

Netflix/Ed MillerBaby Reindeer is based on comedian/actor Richard Gadd’s one-man 2019 U.K. autobiographical stage play of the same name.

A line appears at the beginning of Baby Reindeer that states, “This is a true story.” During interviews about the series, Gadd has noted that while his story has been fictionalized for Baby Reindeer, “emotionally, it’s all 100% true.”As such, Gadd plays a fictionalized version of himself—a standup comedian/bartender named Donny Dunn—who is relentlessly stalked by a lonely woman, Martha Scott (Jessica Gunning), after he shows her kindness in a pub. Baby Reindeer also chronicles Gadd’s harrowing encounter with a television writer who sexually abused him.

The massive popularity of the series resulted in internet sleuths searching for and eventually outing the “real Martha,” who did interviews with the British press before publicly revealing herself as Fiona Harvey in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan.

Since that time, Harvey has filed a lawsuit against Netflix for $170 million in damages. The complaint in the lawsuit states, “As a result of Defendants’ lies, malfeasance and utterly reckless misconduct, Harvey’s life had been ruined. Simply, Netflix and Gadd destroyed her reputation, her character and her life.”

Baby Reindeer is streaming on Netflix, while True Detective: Night Country is streaming on Max.

The winners of the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards will be revealed in a live broadcast on ABC on September 15.
