Bridgerton season 4 may have cast a key character in Benedict and Sophie’s romance. Based on the book series by Julia Quinn, each season of Netflix’s popular period drama follows a different member of the eponymous family as they find love in a historically alternative version of Regency-era London. Bridgerton season 4 is set to focus on Benedict (Luke Thompson), the family’s second-oldest son, and his romance with Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha.

Now, another key character in Benedict and Sophie’s romance may have been cast. According to talent agency Hamilton Hodell’s website, actress Susan Brown’s credits include the role of Mrs. Crabtree in Bridgerton. However, Brown’s casting has yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix or anyone involved with the series.

Fans of Julia Quinn’s novels should recognize Mrs. Crabtree as a pivotal figure in Benedict and Sophie’s romance. As the housekeeper at My Cottage on the countryside in Wiltshire, she works for Benedict and plays a crucial role in uniting the pair in the third Bridgerton book, An Offer From a Gentleman. In the novel, Mrs. Crabtree and her husband serve as caretakers at Benedict’s countryside home and, while Sophie assists with light chores, she makes a point of treating her as a guest after discovering her at the cottage with Benedict.

Susan Brown’s apparent casting comes soon after a look at the Bridgerton season 4 table-read, which revealed a glimpse of the cast gathering to gear up for the series. Other than Brown’s apparent casting, Katie Leung and Isabella Wei have also been cast as new characters, Lady Araminta Gun and Posy Li, respectively. Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Hannah Dodd, Florence Hunt, Polly Walker, Martins Imhange, Victor Alli, and Hugh Sachs will also reprise their roles.

Susan Brown is a distinguished English actress of the stage and screen, best known for her roles in Games of Thrones season 1 as Septa Mordane and the 2011 film The Iron Lady as Margaret Thatcher’s live-in carer, June. Brown is a stellar and specific choice for Mrs. Crabtree considering her history of playing warm caretaker characters.
