Despite wanting to be very loyal to the books, Henry Cavill revealed that he did not have much control over the storyline of The Witcher.
Henry Cavill played Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher. Based on the short stories of Andrzej Sapkowski which were already adapted into fan-favorite video games, the Netflix series had a successful first season but saw a downfall in its second and third seasons.
Cavill left the series after the third season as he was set to reprise his role as Superman in the DCEU (before James Gunn rebooted the franchise) and was replaced by Liam Hemsworth. In an interview, Cavill admitted that he did not have much control over the storyline of the show and he tried to stay loyal to the character.

As one of the most recognized actors in Hollywood, Henry Cavill has had surprisingly less success. The actor is best known for his role as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and its sequels in the DCEU. However, while the films received good box office numbers, the responses to them were divisive.
His other films such as The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Argylle, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare have not seen box office success. However, the actor still enjoys a massive fanbase who consider him to be the definitive Superman of the generation. He has also received acclaim for his performance as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher.
While the actor departed from the role after season 3 and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the upcoming fourth season, he mentioned that he had little control over the storylines of the show and that he tried his best to keep his character faithful to the books (via The Talks),
Luckily I love strong opinions when it comes to this stuff because I’m the same, I feel the same way about the source material that I’m incredibly loyal to. And it’s something that I want to see represented in the best way possible. I can’t control the storylines of my work; I can’t control the plot lines, I can’t draw anything, really. But I can have an influence on my character.
The actor’s performance was received positively, with many critics specifying his role as a standout.
Henry Cavill Said The Witcher’s Success Was Helpful For Him

Henry Cavill has seen many failures in his life. After seeing some success with the show The Tudors, the actor’s subsequent film roles received divisive responses and middling box office numbers, apart from the DCEU films. However, the success of Netflix’s The Witcher reportedly boosted his confidence and his reputation as a bankable actor.
Cavill mentioned to The Talks that the show’s humungous success helped him as an actor,
When you’re piecing together projects can be considered commodities, and your commodity is popular in one media, then someone else will go, ‘Hey, that’s a great commodity, let’s put it in our project.’ And then hopefully, we’ll get more people to come watch our movie or our TV show. So the success of The Witcher has an effect on that side of business as an actor.
The actor was also recently seen in Deadpool & Wolverine as a Wolverine variant and will be seen in Guy Ritchie’s next film In The Grey.
The Witcher is currently streaming on Netflix.
