Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer.

The Lincoln Lawyer officially made its return on Oct. 17 with a brand-new season. If you’ve already powered through all 10 episodes of the binge-worthy legal drama, you’re probably wondering what’s next for Mickey Haller after the Season 3 finale’s shocking cliffhanger.

The third season, based on The Gods of Guilt—the fifth book in Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer series—sees Manuel Garcia-Rulfo reprise his role as Los Angeles defense attorney Mickey Haller. This time, he’s investigating the death of his former client and friend, Gloria “Glory Days” Dayton.

Mickey quickly becomes a target for those determined to keep Glory’s killer a secret. His home is broken into, and an attempt to run him off the road leads to the tragic death of his driver, Eddie. Mickey thinks that drug trafficker Hector Moya—who he and Glory Days previously sent to prison—might be involved in his death. However, Moya suggests that DEA agent James De Marco is someone worth looking into further.

During the trial, Mickey’s client Julian, who is being framed for Glory Days’ murder, is attacked in prison and ends up hospitalized. Mickey pushes to get former APD detective Neil Bishop to testify after uncovering that Bishop had been following Glory before her death. Cisco eventually finds footage of Bishop and DEA agent De Marco entering Glory’s home on the day she was killed.

De Marco flees the country, and later, Mickey and his team receive a photo of a body hanging from a bridge, believed to be De Marco’s, presumably killed by the drug cartel.

Fortunately, Julian survives this whole ordeal, and with the true killer exposed, all the charges against him are dropped. Mickey also pushes for Julian to receive a substantial settlement after everything that he went through.

In the Season 3 finale, as Mickey leaves a restaurant, he’s pulled over by a cop while driving his convertible. When Mickey asks what he did wrong, the officer explains that his license plate is missing, and Mickey steps out of his vehicle.

The officer then spots what appears to be blood dripping from the car and demands that Mickey open the trunk. When Mickey refuses, he’s placed under arrest. Upon opening the trunk, the police discover the body of Sam Scales, a former client of Mickey and Lorna, inside.

Netflix hasn’t confirmed a fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer. The streamer will likely wait to see how well Season 3 does before deciding to renew the show, just like it did with the third season after Season 2 was released.

The series showrunners, Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez, recently spoke with TV Insider about what Mickey’s next chapter might look like.

“We always set up sort of the next case of the season. This one won’t quite set up the next case, but it will definitely set up the next book,” Rodriguez said. Humphrey added, “I think we can say this season will definitely propel us in a very exciting and personal way into a Season 4.”

The good news is that the showrunners are optimistic about the show’s future. They expressed a desire to adapt all the books in Michael Connelly’s series, with Rodriguez teasing that they “may even go from there” with additional books that could be added to the series.

“Michael hints that he’s potentially working on another Lincoln Lawyer book beyond the ones that have already been published,” Humphrey revealed. “We don’t know that for sure. Obviously, if he is working on one, we are very eager to read it. We have plans internally for how to adapt versions of all the books.” But both are quick to note that it’s up to the audience. “If the audience keeps enjoying what we’re doing, then we will keep making the show.”

Their plans also include “a sense of where we would go for a potential Season 5 and even 6 beyond that,” Humphrey continued.

Regarding the shocking cliffhanger at the end of season three, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo told Today.com that Mickey has “great people that can help him” if he has to go to trial.

“I think Lorna and him would make a perfect couple to defend him,” he said. He also mentioned Mickey’s first wife, Maggie and “Even Andy… I mean, he has good people.”

The first three seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer are streaming on Netflix.
