It’s been more than two years since Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman,’ starring Robert Pattinson, hit theaters. The film received acclaim from critics and audiences alike, who praised its dark atmosphere and emphasis on Batman’s detective skills.
Reeves is now working on a sequel called ‘The Batman – Part II,’ which is scheduled for release in October 2026. In the meantime, fans can enjoy ‘The Penguin’ series, which just premiered its first episode.
‘The Penguin’ takes place just a week after the events of ‘The Batman Part 1,’ following the death of Carmine Falcone. In this shifting power dynamic, Penguin seeks to claim the void left behind. Oswald will go head-to-head with Sofia Falcone, and Colin Farrell has described the series as “gruesome” and “dark.”
The pilot episode certainly lived up to this description, showcasing the extreme lengths Penguin is willing to go to in order to dominate the city. Critics have given it rave reviews, and now that the show has premiered, fans are echoing those enthusiastic responses as well.
The first episode start shortly after the breach of the Seawall and the aftermath of Falcone’s murder, placing the uncertain leadership of the family in Alberto Falcone’s hands. In a moment of weakness, Cobb makes a rash decision that ignites a conflict between two rival crime families and puts him in the path of Sofia Falcone, who has just been released from Arkham Asylum.
