The second season of the show was added to Netflix at the weekend and fans have already watched all of the episodes and are desperate for more
Netflix viewers are expressing their mixed emotions after viewing the finale of a political thriller just days after its release, with some left ‘mad as hell’.
Released on October 31, the latest instalment of The Diplomat provided an alternative thrill over Halloween, devoured by fans in days with a more concise six-episode run, down from its first season’s eight episodes.
The truncated season has left viewers wanting more, with disgruntled watchers vocalising their irritation online.
One viewer railed on social media, sharing: “I accidentally watched the Season 2 finale of The Diplomat, and I’m mad as hell. Six episodes? We waited all this time for SIX episodes? That’s not nearly enough. Reminds me of a guy I used to date. Netflix, do better.”
Yet it was revealed that the series’ brevity was a call by the showrunner herself.
Debora Cahn confessed in a TVLine interview: “It was my decision. Netflix was not happy. They wanted the full eight….I was really tired. It was a time thing.
“It felt like there wasn’t enough time to turn around eight of them. It was a lot to do in what appeared to be a short period of time.”
What Cahn was unaware of at the time was that there would be an 18-month gap between releases, and she has since stated that had she known this, she could have produced a second season with eight episodes, reports the Mirror.(Image: NETFLIX)
However, other viewers were effusive in their praise for the series, especially its cliffhanger finale. One viewer posted: “Simply incredible! What an ending. Can’t recommend this show enough.”
Another chimed in: “The Diplomat on Netflix is the best show I have ever watched. WOW. And the Season 2 cliffhanger is insane. I cried, laughed and screamed.”
Many are already eagerly awaiting the third season, with one fan stating: “I think that’s the best ending to a series I’ve ever watched! Roll on series 3.”
The Diplomat is streaming on Netflix now
