In addition to Star Wars’ official X account referring to The Acolyte as “The Acolyte season 1” in a post earlier this month, a new Star Wars book title, The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte (Season One), yet again suggests that Star Wars anticipates a second season. Surely, if a second season was not in the franchise’s future (or, at least, wasn’t expected to come eventually), Star Wars would not be referring to the show in this way. While that is certainly a fair cry from Lucasfilm directly announcing The Acolyte season 2, the implications are clear.
The Acolyte Season 1’s Ending Set Up A Fascinating Future Story
The Acolyte ending left a shocking number of massive questions unanswered. For one, none other than the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis made a cameo in the show’s final episode—something that viewers had long speculated might be coming but was nevertheless thrilling. This raises serious questions about how Plagueis’ story will progress from watching Qimir and Osha on the Unknown Planet to inevitably taking on Palpatine as a Sith apprentice.

Of course, the trajectory of Osha and Qimir’s relationship opens up its own host of questions, too. Although Osha initially rejected Qimir repeatedly, in the finale episode of The Acolyte, she agreed to train with him as the acolyte he had been seeking for the entire show. More intriguingly, their relationship clearly went beyond the typical master and apprentice dynamic. Rather, Qimir and Osha seem to have a romantic bond as well, as they were shown holding hands with one another in one of the show’s final shots.
The Acolyte also saw a massive Jedi plot, with Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh stepping in to cover up the events of The Acolyte, specifically pertaining to Master Sol’s role in the death of Osha and Mae’s mother, Mother Aniseya, and the Jedi’s larger role in the destruction of the twins’ coven, the witches of Brendok. In fact, this led to yet another major cameo. The final shot of The Acolyte revealed the back of Master Yoda’s head, with Vernestra Rwoh clearly going to seek Yoda’s help in her cover-up.

Arguably, these cliffhangers were entirely by design. The Acolyte’s showrunner, Leslye Headland, was very vocal about wanting additional seasons of the show, and these unanswered questions seem like a strategic move to guarantee a second season. Nevertheless, many hope to see these mysteries addressed in a potential second season of The Acolyte, and it seems as though Star Wars will deliver.
