Wednesday’s Christina Ricci Explains Why She Never Gave Jenna Ortega Advice

Wednesday star Christina Ricci has revealed she hasn’t given Jenna Ortega any advice about playing the iconic Addams Family character.

Ortega is set to be back on our screens next year when Wednesday season two launches on one of the leading streaming services, Netflix.

However, before the hit series, a young Ricci famously played a child version of Wednesday in the two 90s movies, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values.

Despite previously playing a younger version of the character, Ricci felt she didn’t need to give Ortega any tips when she landed the role.

Chatting exclusively with Digital Spy, Ricci explained the version of Wednesday being portrayed by Ortega is very different to the character she played in the films.

“No, no, [I didn’t give her any advice]. It’s a different character to the one I played,” she said. “You know, I was playing a child. She’s not playing a child really, more a teenager. I was playing like a nine-year-old.

“I also just feel like ‘What? Just because she’s younger than me, she needs my insight?’. She doesn’t. She doesn’t need anybody’s advice.

“She’s great, she’s doing so well, and she never needed anything for me.”

Ricci starred alongside Ortega in Wednesday season one, playing Marilyn Thornhill (aka Laurel Gates).

“She was so wonderful in the first season and she’s just such a wonderful actress in general,” Ricci remarked, further praising her co-star. “She’s so talented, but also just has such a great ability to play Wednesday.”

Netflix has confirmed Wednesday fans will have to wait until 2025 to see Ortega back in the titular role when the show returns for its second season.

However, it’s currently unknown as to whether Ricci will be reprising her role as Gates/Thornhill.

Following the dramatic season one finale, fans have been speculating online about the fate of her character and whether or not she could return.

While they wait to find out if Ricci will make a comeback to the show, fans can see her acting alongside Chris Hemsworth and Ken Jeong in her latest project.

The actor recently starred in a comical trailer for Supercell’s new party action mobile game, Squad Busters.

Ricci, Hemsworth, Jeong, Will Arnett and Auli’i Cravalho play live-action versions of the characters from the game in the hilarious new advert.

The star confessed she was “dying laughing” when she first saw her co-stars in their video game costumes.

Wednesday streams on Netflix. Season 2 has been confirmed.
