With Wednesday season 2’s casting updates, I truly hope the show doesn’t pass up the chance at reuniting a pair of actors from a 1993 movie. Despite understandable frustrations with Wednesday season 2’s release delay, I was absolutely elated after learning of who would be joining Jenna Ortega in the follow-up to the Netflix hit. Among Wednesday season 2’s new cast includes Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, and Thandiwe Newton. However, the most exciting name (at least to me) was Christopher Lloyd.
Wednesday Season 2 Has The Chance To Reunite Christopher Lloyd & Christina Ricci
The Pair Last Worked Together In 1993’s Addams Family Values
Before Christopher Lloyd even appears on Wednesday, I must admit we were already gifted with another notable performance in the show’s debut season. In a stellar bit of casting, former Wednesday Addams actress Christina Ricci played Marilyn Thornhill, aka Laurel Gates, the botany teacher who ended up being the mastermind villain in season 1. If the character returns, Wednesday season 2 could reunite Addams Family stars Ricci and Lloyd after last working together on Addams Family Values.
Wednesday can finally present the on-screen Addams Family reunion I have always hoped for
Ricci and Lloyd’s performances as Wednesday and Fester were highlights in their own right. But I was always fascinated by Wednesday’s bond with specific family members, even if she showed her love for them in unorthodox ways. Decades later, Wednesday can finally present the on-screen Addams Family reunion I have always hoped for, even if it means having Ricci and Lloyd play different characters. While Ricci played a surprising villain, it hasn’t been announced who Lloyd will be portraying. Perhaps his character is closely connected to Laurel Gates, opening the door for a thrillingly interconnected story.
Is Christina Ricci Returning In Wednesday Season 2?
It’s Still Unclear If Laurel Gates Will Be Involved In Season 2
Even though I can’t get over how perfect a reunion between Christina Ricci and Christopher Lloyd would be within another Addams Family project, it’s still unclear if Laurel will return in Wednesday season 2. Netflix hasn’t shared whether or not Ricci will be back. That said, the character’s story still has me convinced that the reunion could happen. Laurel was defeated during Wednesday season 1’s ending, but her fate was never actually revealed after Wednesday seemingly knocked her out. Considering Tyler will still be involved in season 2’s story after being captured, the same could happen with Laurel.
One issue that could prevent Ricci from appearing in Wednesday season 2 is her busy schedule. Aside from Wednesday, Ricci has also worked on another massively popular show: Yellowjackets. Her character, Misty, is pivotal to the plot and will likely be heavily involved in season 3, which is filming at the same time as Wednesday season 2. The filming schedules may prevent Ricci from appearing in both shows. I can’t say I wouldn’t be disappointed if Wednesday season 2 couldn’t make The Addams Family reunion work, but I would understand. Until it’s the idea is deemed impossible, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
