Two Major Starts Are Supposedly Testing for the Role of Lara Croft in the Upcoming Streaming Series

Everyone’s heard of Lara Croft, the female protagonist of the video game franchise Tomb Raider, as she is one of the most popular video game characters of all time, as well as one of the most famous fictional characters in general. Whether you’ve played the games or not, chances are you’ve heard of her.

Of course, the three movies that were filmed helped, as both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander helped popularize the character. An animated series is also coming up, but we’ve also reported that Amazon is working on a live-action series that will be run by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

While we don’t know much about the project as a whole, Deadline reports that two actresses are going to test for the role of Lara Croft. They are two very big theatrical names, which is why the fans are probably going to be very excited to hear who they are.

Not that long ago, we reported how Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games, expressed his enthusiasm both for the upcoming game, as well as the series:

With great IP, the possibilities are endless. The richness and depth of the fiction allows the Tomb Raider series from Prime Video and the video game from Amazon Games to tell separate stories about Lara Croft’s adventures. We’re honored that Crystal Dynamics has entrusted Amazon with this iconic franchise, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this collaboration takes us.

At the same time, Waller-Bridge also shared her enthusiasm about the show, claiming that it is a childhood dream come true for her, as Lara Croft is a character that has inspired her since she was a child:

If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all

Now, Deadline reports that Sophie Turner, best known as Jean Grey from the new X-Men series, and Lucy Boynton, from Bohemian Rhapsody, have been called in to test for the role. Both of them are great actresses, and while Turner does have experience with similar roles, Boynton is also a very big name that could contribute to the series in a major way.

Other names have been in contention as well, like Emma Corrin and Mackenzie Davis, but it doesn’t seem that they’ve been called in for a test shoot at this time. Amazon has so far declined to comment on any of this, but this is a pretty interesting piece of news from Deadline that has us excited for the shot.
