Assassin's Creed Black Flag free update adds highly-requested feature

Ubisoft has released free updates for some of its games, including Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, introducing a highly-requested feature that players have been pleading for years.

Ubisoft releases updates for its games quite regularly, whether it’s bug fixes, gameplay overhauls, or new expansions.

It’s pretty common to see a lot of games get post-launch support nowadays, even those that are years old.

Now, the company has updated a bunch of its older titles with a feature that players have been requesting for years.

In addition to this, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate also received an update in November.

As spotted by several Reddit users, Ubisoft has added achievements to the Steam versions of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Previously, achievements were only available via the Ubisoft Connect launcher, meaning earning those achievements would not show up on a player’s Steam profile.

However, many PC gamers prefer to use the Steam client due to its functionality and number of features. So, Steam users having access to achievements for these games is something that has been requested for years.

“Only took them a decade but finally,” wrote one user on Reddit.

“Omg, I’m genuinely in shock right now,” wrote another. “Hopefully the same will happen to Far Cry series soon!”

“They also auto-sync if you already played AC IV (did not try Unity yet) on Ubisoft Connect,” another user confirmed, meaning if you already earned them on the Ubisoft Connect app, the achievements will automatically pop for you when you launch it on Steam.

This appears to be part of an ongoing initiative by Ubisoft to improve Steam functionality of many of its titles. Earlier this year, Steam achievements were also added to Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.

As of writing, it appears that there are still other Assassin’s Creed games on Steam that don’t have the achievements feature, which may upset achievement hunters.

We checked the other Steam pages, and it seems the first game, as well as Assassin’s Creed IIBrotherhoodRevelationsAssassin’s Creed IIIRogueLiberation, and Syndicate are still missing the feature.

Ubisoft may add the feature to more of its games in the future, as it has been doing throughout the year.
