Rings of Power EntsThe Ents have returned in Prime Video’s The Rings of Power season 2, and they’re voiced by some beloved, recognizable actors. Audiences know the Ents of Middle-earth from The Two Towers, one of the best Lord of the Rings movies, due to the Ent uprising swaying the conflict with Saruman. Presenting an analogy about nature rising up to defend itself against reckless industrialism, the Ents are some of the easiest characters in J.R.R. Tolkien’s world to root for, and this continues in the prequel show.

The Rings of Power shows the world of Lord of the Rings during its Second Age, thousands of years before the events of the main trilogy. Season 1 saw the creation of Mordor, with the orcs beginning to settle their own territory under the leadership of Adar, laying waste to forests in their proximity. Because of this, the Ents in the region are forced into action, fighting off orcs and turned-humans to the best of their ability.

The two main Ents introduced in season 2 are Snaggleroot and Winterbloom, adding some elite talent to the Rings of Power season 2 cast. Snaggleroot is voiced by veteran actor Jim Broadbent, whose career in film and television has spanned decades, including classics like Moulin Rouge!Time Bandits, and Brazil. He even had a small role in Game of Thrones season 7 as Archmaester Ebrose. In the Harry Potter franchise, Jim Broadbent plays Professor Horace Slughorn.

Winterbloom is voiced by Olivia Williams, who’s best known for playing Miss Cross in Wes Anderson’s Rushmore. She’s also been in The Sixth Sense and recently had a role in the final seasons of The Crown. The existence of Winterbloom also creates fun questions about Tolkien’s lore and the existence of female Ents. In The Two Towers, Treebeard claims that there are no more Entwives, but their disappearance is never thoroughly explained. This gives The Rings of Power an opportunity to provide some interpretation through Winterbloom’s story.

Will The Ents Return In The Rings Of Power Season 2?

The Ents’ Rings Of Power Narrative Could Return Later On

It doesn’t seem like the Ents’ time in The Rings of Power is over just yet, but they may not be back in season 2. For the time being, their narrative seems to have closed with the events of episode 4, and characters like Arondir and Isildur could continue moving elsewhere in their journeys. Given their prominence in Tolkien’s world and the mystery established by the appearance of an Entwife, it seems possible that they could return before The Rings of Power comes to a close.
