In a recent interview with ET at the premiere of A Quiet Place: Day One, Quinn is asked about Eddie’s possible return in Stranger Things season 5, and his response is intriguing. “I have a feeling that we might see Eddie once again,” the interviewer says, to which Quinn expresses agreement. The actor is quick to soften his answer, however, and keep the mystery alive. Check out Quinn’s comment below:
” I might have that feeling too . Or maybe I don’t. I don’t know! Who knows?”
Should Eddie Return In Stranger Things Season 5?
Why The Character’s Resurrection Could Be A Problem
After spending much of his tenure on the show on the run after being falsely implicated in Chrissy’s (Gace Van Dien) death, the Stranger Things season 4 finale sees Eddie come into his own as a hero. He plays his guitar in epic fashion to distract Vecna, but is attacked in the process, ultimately passing away from his wounds in one of the show’s most emotional moments. While it would certainly be exciting to see the character come back in season 5, there’s an argument to be made that he shouldn’t be resurrected.
No core members of the Stranger Things cast have been killed off yet on the show, but beloved supporting characters like Barb (Shannon Purser), Bob (Sean Astin), and Alexei (Alec Utgoff) have. These deaths have been emotional for audiences, and they often help to further the main characters’ emotional arcs and establish the show’s stakes – characters’ lives really are in danger. If Eddie is resurrected, the satisfaction of his return could hurt the show more than it helps, diminishing the stakes and suggesting that death isn’t permanent in the world of the show.
Plus, Stranger Things has already done one death fake out with David Harbour’s Hopper in the season 3 finale, and pulling the same move with Eddie could ultimately feel like a somewhat cheap misdirect. That being said, Eddie could certainly return in season 5 without being actually resurrected, perhaps through a flashback sequence. It remains to be seen how or if Eddie will feature in Stranger Things season 5, but Quinn’s latest comment certainly suggests audiences haven’t seen the last of the character.
