Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean, a Vault Dweller in Prime Video's Fallout
Fallout star Ella Purnell opens up about the specific scene that left her with big expectations for the hit video game adaptation.

Per Collider, Purnell discussed the scene in question during an appearance at FanExpo Chicago. “It was when we were filming the scene where Lucy and the Ghoul are fighting on the docks, with this giant, 15-foot, mutated salamander,” Purnell said. “It was so tough. It was 100 degrees. Walton [Goggins, The Ghoul] was sweating, because he was head-to-toe in prosthetics, and he’s wearing a shirt, a waistcoat, a jacket, and a hat. They could not have put him in more clothes if they tried. It was challenging.”

“There was slime everywhere, everyone was falling over, everyone was sweating. I was missing a shoe,” Purnell continued. “And my makeup artist, Mike Harvey, he was like, ‘You know, it’s the toughest shoots that make the best shows.’ Even though it was so tough, and the crew was struggling, the cast was struggling, and it was very tense, we all kind of knew. And we pushed through because we knew that we were making something really cool.”

Based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, Prime Video’s Fallout series premiered on April 10 and quickly won over critics and audiences alike. The series stars Purnell as former Vault Dweller Lucy MacLean alongside an ensemble cast including Walton Goggins as The Ghoul, Kyle MacLachlan as Lucy’s father Hank, and Aaron Moten as Maximus. Shortly after its release, Fallout was nominated for a slew of Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Goggins, which only topped off the list of 16 total awards the series was in the running to bring home.

Fallout Had a Very Positive Reception

In late July, Amazon MGM Studios television head Vernon Sanders discussed the rave response to Fallout. While Sanders was happy to promise that scripts for the series’ second season were already in hand, he noted that there are specific reasons for working so far ahead on such an expansive show. Sanders described Fallout as a “multi-season show that can go in a lot of different directions,” and also noted that it would be “premature for me to give you a release date. But I’ll tell you, we are working hard to be back as fast as possible. So I think people will be pleased with how quickly we’re able to get the show back.”

Fallout is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
