The trickster god is back

It would seem as though everybody’s favourite trickster is back after Marvel finally reveals the upcoming cast for the next season of its animated show.

Portrayed by Tom Hiddleston since 2011’s Thor, the trickster god Loki has become a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has since featured in six other movies as well as his very own live-action series, Loki.

It is safe to say that the brother of Thor is much-loved so it is no surprise that his return to yet another project has fans excited.

According to a recent announcement, Hiddleston will be returning to his role as Loki in the third season of What If…?

He will be starring alongside other much-loved Marvel actors such as Hayley Atwell, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Mark Ruffalo and more as they all return for the animated television series.

First airing in 2021, What If…? aims to reimagine noteworthy events from the MCU by creating a multiverse of infinite possibilities.

Now its third season is rapidly approaching and with it set to kick off on 22 December, it won’t be long before Loki fans will get to see his epic return to the MCU after a brief hiatus.

Taking to r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, the conversation turned to the brand-new cast list and it is safe to say that many fans were over the moon upon learning about Loki’s return.

“Tom Hiddleston Loki LETS GOOO,” one comment read.

“Hope it’s God Loki this time. Maybe at the end he saves everyone if somehow The Watcher needs help or fails.”

Another fan had some thoughts about his potential storyline.

“I am reeeally curious if Loki will appear only as a frost giant or if there will be a version of God of Stories Loki. Given the ending of S2, I would hope so,” they wondered.

What If…? Season 3 will air on Disney+ on 22 December, 2024.
