Did Netflix drop a new-age Grey’s Anatomy show with Pulse? Fans took an interest in Pulse after its April 2025 premiere and viewers are already wondering if the show will return for season 2.
Life & Style shares everything to know about the possibility of a Pulse season 2 following the season 1 premiere.
Will There Be a ‘Pulse’ Season 2?
Pulse has not been officially renewed for season 2. However, executive producer Carlton Cuse is not turning his head to a follow-up season.
“We have some really wonderful actors and some fun stories that we’re really interested in exploring,” Carlton told TV Guide in April 2025. “Hopefully, we’re going to get a season 2. Not only will we get more of Danny and Phillips, but we’re also going to get the opportunity in season 2 to dig into these other characters [with] a lot more depth.”
Carlton said that the storyline would focus on the main characters Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) and Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell).
“The story always started with this — with Danny reporting Phillips, the fallout of that, and the eventual discovery of the details of [their] relationship,” Pulse showrunner and executive producer Zoe Robyn told TV Guide. “One of the things that we were really trying to do with this relationship is show that despite the fact that Phillips put Danny in this very difficult position and despite the problems she was having with it, there was also this love between them. If we had stayed in the present day, we wouldn’t have been able to show the audience the growing romance between the two of them.”
What Happened During ‘Pulse’ Season 1?
Pulse followed Dr. Danny’s promotion from third-year resident to chief resident following Dr. Xander’s demotion. The pair found themselves in a hospital love affair, which came to an ugly end by the season 1 finale.
“They’re both two characters who want to be good partners to each other. But they also have a lot of work to do on themselves. Unfortunately, both of them need to figure some stuff out on their own first before they’re really available for the other,” Colin told Tudum about the mind-blowing finale.
During the season, fans found out that Dr. Xander lost his position as chief resident of Kennedy Hospital after he accidentally killed a patient during an operation.
“Xander is from a very patrician medical family and trying to find his own way in the world. He’s really trying to individuate and figure out how to make his mark,” Carlton previously told Tudum. “That quest guides him both in medicine and in his personal life.”
Of course, a hospital show must have endless tragedies to capture the audience’s attention like a Florida hurricane that puts the hospital’s staff and patients in danger.
“We wanted these characters to be real people who have to go through the relatable issues of working together in a pressure cooker,” Zoe and Carlton told Tudum. “Relationships are forming and breaking apart on Pulse.”
