Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s high-profile romance has been the talk of the town for almost two years.

Since their relationship became public knowledge in September 2023, Swifties have embraced the NFL as if it is an extension to the Eras Tour, and all eyes have been on the Kansas City Chiefs whenever they take to the field.

Or, perhaps, those eyes have been on the VIP suites at Arrowhead Stadium, where fans of the pop culture icon have hoped to catch a glimpse of her cheering on her boyfriend.

Wherever Swift goes, the cameras will forever follow.

When the couple started dating two years ago, the Chiefs were already world champions, having won Super Bowl LVII in February 2023.

Fox’s broadcast of that game was the most-watched program in American television history at the time, with an average of 115.1 million viewers.

But there’s little doubt that the popularity of the Chiefs has exploded further since Swift took her seat in Kelce’s box at Arrowhead.

She attended her first game in September 2023, and watched Kansas City dismantle the Chicago Bears 41-10.

Kelce has since shown out in front of his girlfriend on a number of other occasions.

In the days that followed her first appearance, the NFL posted about Swift 34 times on its social channels, and generated 170 million impressions.

Kelce’s jersey sales jumped by 400% as the league saw a record number of purchases, and the Chiefs’ Instagram following grew by more than 200,000.

When Super Bowl LVIII rolled around five months later, it drew a record 123.7 million average viewers (smashing the previous year’s record) thanks to a 24% jump in 18 to 24-year-old women tuning in for Kansas City’s win.

The ‘Taylor Swift Effect’ is real, and shows no signs of slowing down.

But everything that happens off the field could prove an unwanted distraction for a sports team with just one ultimate goal: To win football games.

Thankfully, that’s not the case in Kansas City, with those close to Kelce also embracing the noise.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a close friend of the tight end, made his feelings clear from the moment Swift arrived.

“She’s a pop star, she’s a tremendous singer, tremendous at everything she does,” Mahomes told reporters after that 41-10 win back in 2023, when Kelce conveniently decided to duck the press.

“I haven’t gotten to meet her… I guess if she ends up being with Travis, I’ll meet her at some point.”

And meet her, he did.

In the months and years since, Travis, Taylor, Patrick and his wife, Brittany, have been spotted hanging out on multiple occasions.

Their friendship seems strong, too.

“Taylor being at all the games has been awesome,” Mahomes said ahead of this year’s Super Bowl.

“It’s been awesome to showcase her bringing light to the sport that I love and getting little girls like my daughter into it and watching the game.

“I just know Taylor better now and I feel like I’ve built a great friendship with her.

“My wife and Taylor have a built a friendship as well. It’s just cool to see how football can bring people together from every aspect of life.”

It’s not just Mahomes who has raved about Swift, either.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has also praised the pop icon for how she handled being in the spotlight at Super Bowl LIX in February, where she faced jeers from sections of the crowd after being shown on the big screen.

“She’s a good girl, she handles that whole thing the right way, that’s a tough deal,” Big Red said at the time.

“But she does a great job of handling it. Kelce, I think, does a great job of handling it.”

“She’s part of the team – like the other girlfriends and wives. They’re part of it. That’s all part of the process.”
