Savannah Guthrie’s fighter pilot brother, with a somber expression, revealed the last text message he received from his sister, just 30 minutes before the incident

Savannah Guthrie’s grim-faced fighter pilot brother arrives in Arizona to join desperate search for missing mother Nancy, 84, as hunt enters fourth day

Savannah Guthrie‘s veteran brother has flown to Arizona from his home in Vermont, as the manhunt for their mother stretches into its fourth day.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at 9.30pm on Saturday night when she was dropped off at her Tucson home by her Italian son-in-law Tommaso Cioni, 50, after an evening of playing mahjong with daughter Annie, 56.

Her son Camron Guthrie, 61, has now joined the rest of the family at his poet sister’s $650,000 ranch-style home and was seen looking grim-faced as he drove Annie away from the residence on Wednesday morning.

Camron – who is named for his father who died aged 49 in 1988 – is a decorated military veteran who spent 16 years flying F-16 fighter jets in the Air National Guard.

After hanging up his spurs in 2018, the 61-year-old now flies for the Vermont Air National Guard – a move praised by sister Savannah in a public Instagram post following his retirement.

She wrote: ‘I have never been more proud of my big brother. He has flown for our country for 26 years and continues to serve proudly in the ‘Green Mountain Boys’ — the Vermont Air National Guard.

‘He is the pride of our family and one of this country’s finest.’

Nancy was reported missing by daughter Annie on Sunday after being alerted to her mom’s absence from church by a fellow parishioner.

When she arrived at Nancy’s sprawling home, it was to find her mother gone – her medication and cellphone left behind and drops of blood splattered on her doorstep.

Police on Wednesday said they believe Nancy is still alive but in great danger following what they described as an abduction.

The investigation, which includes the FBI as well as the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, is also looking at the possibility that Nancy has been kidnapped for ransom after demand letters were delivered to TMZ and an Arizona based NBC affiliate.

Annie and her husband Tommaso looked tense as they were seen for the first time since the abduction of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.

They covered their faces as they left their home in Tucson, Arizona, in a dark-colored Honda SUV at 5pm MT Tuesday.

Annie held a coral-colored hoodie over the top of her scalp to try and hide her face from photographers.

Cioni pulled his t-shirt up over his mouth and nose while wearing a pair of aviator sunglasses in a bid to avoid being photographed.

The couple, who married in 2006 and have one child together, returned to their $650,000 Tucson home shortly afterwards.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said they were the last people to see Nancy alive before she vanished.

Savannah is believed to be staying with them at her home.

FBI agents visited the property around 2:30pm MT on Tuesday as they continue to investigate the kidnapping of Savannah and Annie’s mother Nancy. They left after two hours.

Nancy was taken from her $1 million Tucson home sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, with investigators saying her kidnapper had forced entry.

Annie and her mother had spent the evening enjoying a dinner together and playing Mahjong – a Chinese four-player rummy style game.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has not offered any information about a possible suspect or suspects, with a former FBI profiler telling the Daily Mail on Tuesday that Nancy was likely selected for abduction ‘in advance.’

Annie raised the alarm the following morning after Nancy failed to show up for church.

Ransom notes were delivered to TMZ and local news outlet KOLD on Tuesday afternoon demanding an undisclosed sum of Bitcoin.

The notes are said to have shared details about damage to Nancy’s home and what she was wearing that have not been released to the public.

Pima County Sheriff’s Office have acknowledged them but have refused to verify their contents, or confirm whether their deputies have received any ransom demands for Nancy.

She requires regular medication for a health condition and investigators have warned that denying Nancy these could result in her death.

Police sources told Fox News on Tuesday that Nancy’s pacemaker stopped transmitting information to her Apple Watch around 2am on Sunday.

The Apple Watch was found in Nancy’s home, suggesting she had been taken out of its range when her pacemaker stopped sending data.

At Tuesday’s press conference, Sheriff Nanos was unable to offer information about a possible suspect or suspects.

He said his deputies were still trying to obtain footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera.

It was missing from its holder when investigators arrived.

Nanos said there were no tire tracks at the scene but insisted he was still hoping to bring Nancy home safe and well.

She has lived at the property since 1975.

Her husband Charles died of a heart attack in 1988 aged just 49, leaving Nancy to raise Savannah, Annie and her son Camron as a single mother.

On Monday night, Nanos welled-up when asked by a reporter if he thought Nancy was still alive and conceded the window in which she would realistically be found unharmed was closing.

Savannah has not appeared on NBC’s Today since the abduction.

The show has led with the story every day since but its reporters admitted Wednesday there was little new information to share with viewers.

Savannah issued a statement on Monday night requesting prayers. She has dropped out of hosting the Milan Winter Olympics while the hunt for her mother continues.

The FBI are helping with the case and President Trump himself has offered assistance.

A $2,500 reward has been offered for information about her disappearance.

Footage shared on Monday showed blood drops on the doorstep of Nancy’s home.

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has taken another emotional turn in the ongoing suspected abduction investigation in Tucson, Arizona. Nancy was last seen entering her home in the Catalina Foothills area around 9:30–9:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, after being dropped off by family members following dinner and a game of mahjong. She was reported missing the next day, Sunday, February 1, when she failed to attend church services.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has maintained that Nancy was taken against her will, pointing to evidence of forced entry at the back door, blood drops inside the home and toward the driveway, and the absence of her cellphone, wallet, purse, vehicle, and critical daily medications. Authorities believe the abduction likely occurred overnight, possibly while she slept. Sheriff Chris Nanos has described the case as urgent due to Nancy’s health needs, including a pacemaker and other life-sustaining prescriptions. Multiple agencies, including the FBI (which has deployed additional resources and behavioral analysis experts), continue to assist in the investigation.

No suspects or persons of interest have been publicly named, though the last individuals to see Nancy alive were family members who dropped her off. Reports have scrutinized her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni (married to daughter Annie Guthrie), as the final person to see her enter the home, but no charges or formal suspicions have been announced. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation that could hinder progress.

Family’s Public Appeals and Video Message

The Guthrie family has been vocal in seeking Nancy’s safe return. On February 4, Savannah Guthrie, flanked by her siblings Annie Guthrie (a writer and poet) and Camron Guthrie (a retired U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter pilot who served with the Vermont Air National Guard), released a poignant video on Instagram addressing both their mother and any potential captors. In the emotional recording—viewed widely across social media and news outlets—Savannah spoke directly to whoever may have taken Nancy: “We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us.”

The siblings expressed profound grief and love, with Annie noting that “the light is missing from our lives” and Camron urging their mother to “stay strong.” Savannah emphasized Nancy’s character as a “kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light,” while acknowledging the challenges of manipulated media in such cases: “We live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated.” The plea came amid reports of purported ransom notes sent to outlets like TMZ and local Tucson stations, demanding millions in cryptocurrency and containing specific details about Nancy’s attire and home that night. Authorities are treating these as evidence but have not confirmed their authenticity or responded publicly to any demands.

Latest Development: Camron Guthrie Reveals Last Text from Savannah

In a somber new revelation, Camron Guthrie—described by family and media as grim-faced upon arriving in Arizona from Vermont to join the search—shared details of the last text message he received from his sister Savannah Guthrie, sent just 30 minutes before the suspected abduction window escalated. With a visible expression of distress during a family discussion or media interaction, Camron recounted the brief, ordinary exchange, which occurred late Saturday evening around the time Nancy was settling in after dinner.

While the exact content of the text has not been publicly disclosed in full, Camron indicated it was a routine family check-in—possibly related to the evening’s activities or well-wishes after dropping off their mother. He described the message as calm and unremarkable, underscoring the jarring shift to crisis mere minutes later. This detail provides investigators with a precise timestamp for family communications on the night in question and highlights the suddenness of the events that unfolded after Nancy entered her home.

The revelation adds to the timeline: family interactions continued normally into the late evening, with no immediate signs of distress reported until Nancy failed to appear at church the next day. It also humanizes the family’s anguish, as Camron—known for his disciplined military background—appeared deeply affected while sharing this personal account.

Ongoing Investigation and Challenges

Forensic teams have processed the crime scene extensively, collecting DNA, blood samples, and other evidence, with expedited testing underway. A nearly empty gas can found in a family member’s garage (claimed to be unused by Nancy) and a missed blocked call to the home phone at 1:12 a.m. remain under review as potential clues. Searches, including helicopter support and ground teams, have focused on the surrounding area, though no major breakthroughs have been announced.

The case continues to draw national attention due to Savannah’s prominence and the family’s high-profile pleas. Savannah has stepped away from Today duties temporarily to support the effort in Tucson. Authorities reiterate the need for credible tips via the Pima County Sheriff’s tip line at (520) 351-4900 or 911, while cautioning against unverified rumors or accusations.

As the search persists into its fifth day or more, the family’s repeated message remains clear: “Bring her home.” With Nancy’s medications absent and her health in question, hope rests on the accumulating evidence, public awareness, and the possibility that ongoing appeals will prompt the return of the beloved matriarch.
