Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old woman who went missing, was described by a close friend as being in good spirits and involved in activities like book club and mahjong before her disappearance.
As the search continues for missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, a close friend is shedding light on how she spent her final weeks leading up to her disappearance.
On Wednesday, February 4, Nancy’s children, Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings Annie and Cameron Guthrie, released a video urging her alleged kidnappers to bring her home. Now, Mary Ann Blevins, 86, a longtime friend and fellow book club member of Nancy, is sharing a peek into her life in Arizona.
Blevins recalled last seeing Nancy in January at their monthly book club meeting in an interview with Page Six, saying that Nancy was “in really good spirits” at the time.
“We’ve known each other for many, many years,” Blevins said. “I met her a long, long time ago when we first started up the book club.”
“We were in touch a lot,” Blevins continued. “She’s just a beautiful person.”
Blevins revealed more of Nancy’s hobbies, saying outside of her monthly book club, she was part of a mahjong group and spent time with her grandchildren.

“[Nancy’s] daughter lives here and has a young boy that she sometimes picks up at school or watches,” Blevins explained, referring to Savannah’s sister, Annie.
Blevins said she knows Nancy “needs medication” and has “trouble being mobile,” echoing concerns raised by Nancy’s family in their video.
Blevins reflected on Nancy’s disappearance, calling it “impossible.”
“It’s amazing. You can know someone for years and then something like this can happen,” she said.
Blevins also described Nancy as a “very sweet person” and “very outgoing.”

Asked if Nancy ever expressed concern about being alone or fear of being kidnapped, Blevins answered, “No, never.”
She also denied that Nancy ever raised concerns about security, saying, “No, not at all.”
“Anybody that knows her and met her loves her,” Blevins added. “I don’t think she has any enemies, and that’s why this whole thing is very scary.”
Nancy, 84, was reported missing on the morning of Sunday, February 1, after she failed to show up to church. She was last seen the night before having dinner with her daughter Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, reports said.
Law enforcement officials said Cioni was the last person to see her alive after driving Nancy to her home around 9:45 p.m., according to Page Six.
By Monday, Nancy’s home was being treated as a crime scene. Authorities believe Nancy may have been abducted from her home while asleep and confirmed she did not leave on her own. A trail of blood was also found and tested outside the residence.

TMZ reported receiving a ransom note on Tuesday, February 3, which was turned over to the authorities.
“We are taking all tips and leads very seriously,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”
