The Last of Us: Escape the Dark is already proving to be a hit with fans of the Naughty Dog series.
The Last of Us made its debut on the PlayStation 3 in 2013 and I distinctly remember being blown away by the free playable demo that was included with a purchase of God of War: Ascension.
Since that time, The Last of Us has become one of the most popular properties for publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and its developer, Naughty Dog. Over the years, we have been treated to a sequel, remasters and a remake, with no signs of the series slowing down anytime soon.
Not only do we have the highly anticipated The Last of Us Part III to arrive one day, but we can further immerse ourselves in the series’ lore with the critically acclaimed HBO series – with season two on the way soon.
And there is now a tabletop board game in the form of The Last of Us: Escape the Dark.
The Kickstarter campaign was launched by board game developer Themeborne in collaboration with Naughty Dog in November 2022 and smashed its funding raising goal of £120,000 generating over £860,000 in total.
When Reddit user Altruistic_Flower_93 provided tips on surviving the gruelling board game they were asked how they’d rate the game. “I’ve only played it twice, so I will hold off on grading it for now, but I will say that I like it a lot. It will be getting a positive grade,” they replied.
“They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into the game. It definitely feels like you are in TLOU Part I playing on Grounded. You get that thrilling anxiety of trying to make it through a level with limited ammo and health.”
“I got my Collector’s Edition on Saturday, played it immediately while being dirt-tired but loved it. You folks did an exceptional job adapting the source material into a board game while maintaining the themes, vibes, and soul of the original game,” said Twitter user MK Ness replying to a tweet from Themeborne.
“It finally arrived. I love it. Gonna set it up for tonight’s game night,” replied Chris Jackaman in the comments section on YouTube.
The Last of Us: Escape the Dark is out now wherever you like to buy your board games.
