With five new episodes to binge, Outer Banks season 4 is off to a good start, with a second batch of five more episodes coming in November. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves and dreaming about Outer Banks season 5. So is it on the cards?

Will There Be An Outer Banks Season 5?

No official news from Netflix just yet, but it’s very likely Outer Banks will be renewed for season 5. Back in 2023, one of the series creators, Josh Pate, told Netflix: ‘We think about the first three [seasons] as a trilogy and then we’re starting over on [another sort of] trilogy now. We just needed to clear the decks. We’re going to have new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation.’ If that’s the case, it’s not just Outer Banks season 5 on the cards but a season 6, too.

What Will Happen?

There are no details just yet on what might happen in Outer Banks season 5, but if that ‘trilogy’ comment is anything to go by, we expect the action of season 4 – and the core villain – to feed into the drama: Blackbeard.

All that said, one thing we do know is that Outer Banks season 5 will be unexpected and unpredictable. ‘I like to shoot a dream ending just for me every year that doesn’t make it,’ series co-creator Jonas Pate says. ‘You always are trying to come up with that perfect balance that’s surprising but inevitable. And sometimes you’ve just got to mess around with it a little bit.’

‘We have some big ideas that we’re still tinkering with,’ Jonas adds, confirming the series’ ultimate end is already mapped out.

‘We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be, if we would be lucky enough to get it that far,’ fellow co-creators Josh Pate adds, with the final piece in the creator trilogy, Shannon Burke adding there’s ‘a lot of dark, blank space’ between now and that final moment.

Release Date

Full steam ahead: if it is renewed for another season, we expect to see Outer Banks season 5 before the end of 2025.

How Many Episodes In Outer Banks Season 4?

Outer Banks season 4 is made up of 10 episodes. If you’re confused as to why there are only five episodes on Netflix, that’s because the series is the latest subject of the streaming platform’s two-part release strategy: season 4 part 1 launched on 10 October, and part 2 will launch on 7 November.

What Is Outer Banks About?

Set in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina – where there’s a stark divide between wealthy seasonal residents (the ‘Kooks’) and the more working class locals (the ‘Pogues’) – Outer Banks follows a group of teenagers desperate to find out what happened to their ringleader John B’s father. On the hunt for the truth, they discover a legendary figure tied to John B’s father and set out on a hunt for lost treasure.

Is Outer Banks A Real Place?

Yes, the Outer Banks (OBX) are a chain of barrier islands stretching for over 100 miles off the coast of North Carolina. Today, they are a popular holiday spot, feeding into the conflict of the Netflix series: class divides between wealthy seasonal residents and year-round locals. Historically, however, the Outer Banks were sites of early European settlement in America, with the famous English Roanoke Colony settling on Roanoke Island – before mysteriously disappearing. Around the islands is what’s known as the ‘Graveyard of the Atlantic’ due to the hundreds of shipwrecks along the coast.

Where Is Outer Banks Filmed?

Outer Banks is mainly filmed on the east coast of the United States. Kildare Island is a fictional island in the real Outer Banks chain in North Carolina, but these scenes are filmed around Charleston in South Carolina. When the Pogues go to the Bahamas in season 2, scenes were actually filmed in Barbados. And by the end of season 2 and throughout season 3, the gang is in what they dub Poguelandia, a deserted island that is actually Bathsheba Beach in Barbados. For season 4, it’s back to Charleston as the Pogues return to the Outer Banks.
