Furthermore, My Lady Jane season 1’s ending left a lot of room for the narrative to expand, perfectly setting up a second season. Now that Amazon Prime has canceled the show, the ending is much more infuriating than before, and I did not even mind it initially. I had high hopes for My Lady Jane season 2, and Prime Video completely crushed them after failing to promote the show adequately. Now, the way the first season ended will bother me for quite some time.
I’m Way Less Satisfied With My Lady Jane’s Ending Now That It’s Been Canceled
My Lady Jane Season 1 Only Adapted Half The Book
Now that Prime Video has officially canceled My Lady Jane, I find season 1’s ending much less satisfying. Jane had planned to go back to fight Mary and her Ethian prejudice, hoping to improve the relationship between Verities and Ethians. Jane and Guilford are happily in love, but My Lady Jane still has many storylines that need closure. Most importantly, the show only adapted half the book, meaning there is much more ground My Lady Jane needs to cover. Although My Lady Jane has changed from its book counterpart, the show’s ending is awkward now that it has been canceled.
Why My Lady Jane’s Finale Only Works With The Promise Of Season 2
My Lady Jane Season 1 Finale Leaves Far Too Many Variables Up In The Air
Other than Jane and Guilford’s epic romance, My Lady Jane has too many variables up in the air that make the season 1 ending unsatisfying. The ending only initially works because of the promise of Lady Jane Grey returning to London to fight Mary for Ethian rights. Furthermore, the throne is unstable because Mary currently reigns, but Edward has been alive all this time, meaning he is still the king. On top of that, Jane now has her claim to the British throne. Edward and Fitz finally get together, but we will never see more of their dynamic develop.
It is frustrating that we will never know what happens with these plot points that could shake up the story depending on how they unfold.
What will Elizabeth do now that the narrative has revealed she is Ethian and stuck with Mary? Will Archer willingly work with Verities? There is also the budding romance between Katherine Grey, Jane’s younger sister, and William Seymour, Lord Seymour’s son. There’s also the lingering question of where Jane’s ambitious mother fits into the narrative. Ultimately, My Lady Jane has too many unanswered questions. It is frustrating that we will never know what happens with these plot points that could shake up the story depending on how they unfold. We desperately needed My Lady Jane season 2 to fix everything.
