Luther Umbrella Academy Season 4 SR ExclusiveThe Umbrella Academy actor Tom Hopper addresses how the Hargreeves siblings react to not having their powers in season 4. Hopper’s character, Luther Hargreeves, and the other siblings find themselves in a new universe without their powers at the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3. Most of the siblings have spent their entire lives knowing they’ve had powers, making this the first time they will have to navigate challenges without the abilities they’ve come to rely on.

While speaking with Screen Rant, Hopper provided insight into Luther’s surprising reaction to this significant change, along with how it is affecting all the Hargreeves siblings. Luther’s powers have previously been a double-edged sword, as they shaped him into being the Umbrella Academy’s “number one” while also making him subconscious of himself and isolated from others. Check out Hopper’s comments below:

He is coping pretty well, actually. But he’s not in his ideal place, let’s put it that way. I think they all miss their powers. They’re all trying to convince themselves that their lives are better without powers, but I think the problem is that the time they had with powers actually screwed them up when they tried to fit in the real world.

But one thing that Luther doesn’t miss is his gorilla body, that’s for sure.

What The Umbrella Academy’s Missing Powers Mean For Season 4

The Family Will Likely Regain Their Powers Before The End Of The Series

The Hargreeves siblings have had issues with confronting past traumas and family secrets, which aligns with Hopper’s comments about their struggles to confront what it means to live without their powers. Initially, the absence of powers will likely feel liberating, with Luther no longer having to deal with the discomfort of his gorilla body or Klaus (Robert Sheehan) having to communicate with the dead all the time. Viktor (Elliot Page) will probably be best adjusted to this change as, unlike the other siblings, he spent most of his life believing he didn’t possess any powers.

The initial relief and refreshing change of pace can only last so long, though, from Klaus growing to miss the company of the dead to Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min) missing his tentacles. Dealing with the challenges of their current universe willbecome frustrating without their powers. With The Umbrella Academy season 4 being the final season, the siblings need to confront not only what it means not to have their powers, but to confront all the past trauma and family secrets they have let fester.

This includes finally answering the mystery of the original Ben’s death. Confronting this could lead to this Ben getting his powers back, as there is a shot of him using his tentacles in the season 4 trailer. Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Viktor can also be seen in the trailer with powers again, meaning all the siblings will likely regain their abilities before the series ends. They have craved to be normal, but they need to accept that they have never been normal, and that is part of what makes them a family in The Umbrella Academy.
