We’ve picked five characters who could use their swordplay skills to fight their way to fame, fortune, and power.
5. Bronn
A mercenary of Tyrion and then Jaime Lannister, Bronn is known for his cunning and unparalleled swordsmanship. The character started out as a simple plebeian, but with the help of his unparalleled assassination skills, he quickly rose through the ranks and even gained a title.
Bronn is known for his quick reflexes, agility, deadly accuracy, incredible ability to adapt to different fighting styles, and cunning tactics that make him a nearly invincible opponent.
4. Syrio Forel
Arya Stark’s swordsmanship teacher and master of the Braavos style of fighting died in season 1. But even armed with only a wooden sword, he was able to challenge several of Cersei Lannister’s henchmen.
Syrio is known for his quick reflexes and flexibility. His lessons had an indelible effect on the young Stark’s path. Despite his limited screen time, Forel is remembered by fans for his inimitable skill, iconic lines, and boundless bravery.
3. Jaime Lannister
Jaime, infamously known as the Kingslayer, has a reputation as a consummate warrior. He has a natural talent that helps him deal with his opponents in a very elegant but bloody manner.
Lannister has won many jousting tournaments and had a good fight with Ned Stark in the first season. But even after losing his hand, the Kingslayer did not despair, sided with good, and was able to survive the Battle of Winterfell.
2. Brienne of Tarth
Brienne is one of the few true knights to remain loyal to her beliefs throughout the series. As a lady, she defeats Loras Tyrell, the mightiest swordsman in Highgarden, beats Sandor Clegane (aka the Hound), and kills Stannis Baratheon.
Brienne has long honed her swordsmanship to perfection.
1. Barristan Selmy
And in first place is the legendary knight Barristan Selmy, who has a rich history of battles and victories. Selmy is considered one of the greatest swordsmen in Westeros, and his skill with the blade is matched only by his wisdom and experience.
The knight has served more than one king, but each time he has fought his best, for example, saving Daenerys Targaryen from imminent doom on several occasions.
