Jamie Lynn Spears has a starring role in Sweet Magnolias, portraying young mother Noreen Fitzgibbons.
In the show, which is based on Sherryl Woods’ book franchise, Noreen becomes pregnant after having an affair with Maddie Townsend’s (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) estranged husband Bill (Chris Klein).
The Zoey 101 star’s character is pregnant in both Season 1 and 2, and this has led fans to wonder if Spears was really expecting at the time of filming.
Was Jamie Lynn Spears Pregnant During Sweet Magnolias Season 2?
In Sweet Magnolias Season 1, Spears wore a fake baby bump to replicate her character’s pregnancy.
While fans have speculated over whether she was really pregnant in Season 2, Spears actually chose to once again wear the prosthetic bump for filming.
Sharing how this was the case, Spears took to Instagram on Tuesday, February 8 to post a number of images from behind the scenes of the second season.
In the post Spears posed with the fake baby bump and also shared a picture of the prosthetic up close, showing how there were multiple versions to simulate both Noreen’s pregnancy and her post-partum bump.
Spears also revealed that she used a fake baby during her scenes once Noreen had given birth in the show.
While she was not really pregnant whilst filming, Spears’ youngest daughter Ivey does make a cameo in the second season.
Sharing a clip of her three-year-old in the show on Instagram, the actor gushed: “In honor of #SWEETMAGNOLIAS BEING #1 TODAY!! SPOILER ALERT MAJOR GUEST STAR APPEARANCE IN EPISODE 6!
“Yes, she was quite the DIVA, but the girl knows her angles, and can rock some pig tails like no other Thank y’all, thank y’all, THANK YALL for loving this show as much as we do I am beyond GRATEFUL [sic].”
Spears, who also has 13-year-old daughter Maddie, has spoken on how her own experience with teenage pregnancy helped influence her performance as Noreen.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May 2020, she reflected: “It didn’t even feel like acting. Although it was nerve-racking to get back in front of the camera, this felt very natural for me.
“I remember being 16 years old, being pregnant in a small town. And then on top of it, the whole world was watching. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t view myself as a victim. And with Noreen, it was important to not play the victim either.
“She put herself in a compromising situation. She’s a young girl who made some adult decisions, and she’s trying to take some responsibility for that. That was me, too.”
