It made UK television history by being the first streaming show to top the weekly TV ratings chart.
Adolescence’s massive popularity and maelstrom of discussion has inevitably led to calls for a sequel to the four-part crime drama – with even Lorraine Kelly requesting so on her show to Tremarco.
“You’re not alone, a couple of people have said that,” the actress responded to the host.
“But maybe that’s a good thing because it leaves you thinking about what would happen afterwards.”
However, Tremarco poured water on fans’ hopes of another series as she told Kelly: “I think this is a one-off. I think it ends with episode four.”
Adolescence writer Jack Thorne also addressed the cries for a follow-up, explaining a series two was not “quite right for us.”
He also shut down speculation over a spin-off series following the murdered schoolgirl Katie (Emila Holliday).
“I don’t think we’re the right people to tell Katie’s story… So, I think there are other makers out there that could tell beautiful dramas about Katie or girls like Katie, and that those shows should be made,” he explained.
However, the writer did give fans some hope by revealing his desire to take on another project in Adolescence’s one unbroken shot style.
“We’d love to explore the one-shot format in another way,” he said, praising show director Philip Barantini’s signature style.
Upon watching the final episode of the show, some fans were left complaining that it left too many questions unanswered.
Thorne explained that Adolescence did not intend to provide “easy answers”.
“It doesn’t say, ‘This is the way to solve this, this is the way to do that.’ I hope what it provokes is conversations on the sofa, conversations in classrooms, and, hopefully, conversations in government,” he concluded.
