Black Myth Wukong has been released and it did not take the gaming community long to power through the campaign and reach the ending. Players did not waste any time and finished the story, but discovered multiple endings embedded by the developers of Game Science. The game is now available on the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms and had a stellar launch for a game made by independent developers amidst the fierce competition in the modern age of video games.

The other ending will be unlocked depending on the series of side quests a player has accomplished. It is a testament to the game developers’ skill in crafting a story by staying true to the mythology.

There Is More to the Lore Than Meets the Eye in Black Myth Wukong

The developers of Game Science did not hold back and highlight concepts from Chinese mythology such as including a secret boss fight for the Destined One after collecting all of Buddha’s eyeballs. Mythology enthusiasts will get a kick out of this ambitious project focusing on the Destined One’s journey.

The story has several endings that depend on whether the player completes optional objectives. Sun Wukong refused to be a slave of the Celestial Court and was defeated by default because of the headband that kept him from being free. Wukong decided to end his life and divide his powers across various relics for his successor to collect centuries later. Each ending will vary depending on whether the player accomplishes several side objectives.

Sun Wukong refuses to live by the Celestial Court. After his death, his powers are meant to be succeeded by a worthy successor through reincarnation. The Destined One will collect each relic and deliver it to the final spot, which happens to be the soulless husk of the original Sun Wukong. After players do all optional objectives, they will inherit the memories of Wukong without the burden of wearing the headband that was kept him from being free.

In the bad ending, the Destined One will take the place of Sun Wukong instead of inheriting his abilities and suffer the same fate of being trapped in stone while wearing the headband. Once players have five of the six relics, the Destined One must collect the mind of Wukong and if they bested the soulless husk with all relics in their possession, Sun Wukong has been successfully reincarnated through the Destined One’s actions.

Rather than resurrecting the original Wukong, the Destined One would inherit his powers and memories and become the new Sun Wukong. All that effort because Wukong defied the wishes of the Celestial Court is a testament to his strong will and encouraged him to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Wukong’s tale of defiance would catalyze the Destined One to embark on his journey. Each relic corresponds to each sense and the god Erlan Shen as he will determine if the Destined One is a worthy successor to take up the mantle.

Black Myth Wukong Is About Living up to Sun Wukong’s Legacy

Wukong knew he was out of options and gambled on his freedom with a last-ditch effort to break free from the Celestial Court. The Destined One became an avatar and struggled to acquire all senses making him the perfect successor.

Sun Wukong left a legacy that the Destined One had to live up to. Failure will mean eternal damnation while success leads to their freedom.

Game Science did an impressive job with this project. Perhaps other deities will be the central figure in future installments.

Fans will likely pursue all side objectives to secure a good ending. Avoid the Destined One from suffering.
