Joker: Folie à Deux received very poor reviews from both critics and audiences. It currently has a 32% approval rating from both, making it “rotten.”
The movie also got a “D” on CinemaScore, the lowest rating for a superhero movie so far—though calling Joker 2 a superhero movie or comic adaptation might not be accurate.
The movie flopped at the box office and also struggled on PVOD. Given its troubled production, this outcome wasn’t too surprising. Lady Gaga was reportedly shocked by the result, but not everyone involved in the movie was surprised by its failure.
Tim Dillon had a small role in the film and, in his own words, it’s the worst movie he’s ever worked on.
Dillon is a stand-up comedian and podcast host known for his dark humor and outspoken style. He often discusses politics, pop culture, and conspiracy theories with a mix of sarcasm and satire. His podcast, The Tim Dillon Show, has gained a large following and helped boost his online popularity.
Dillon recently appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and didn’t hold back with his opinions.
It’s the worst film that has ever been made. It’s actually not ‘so bad.’ It’s the worst film ever made. I think what happened, after the first ‘Joker,’ there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels.
This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!’ All these thinkpieces. And then I think, ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing, to a point where it’s insane
Dillon isn’t the first to think this way, as many fans believe that Phillips intentionally made the movie bad as a “F*** you” to all the “wrong kinds of bad.” Dillon also shared that he knew the movie would fail while he was on set.
The comedian was reportedly confused about the plot and said it wasn’t even “hate-watchable.”
It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these other guys were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of them, and we’d hear this crap, and I’d go, ‘What the f*** is this?’
And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever.’ We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is

Whether you agree with Dillon or not, the box office numbers speak for themselves. Joker 2 might not be the worst movie ever made, but it’s definitely one of the worst “superhero” movies.
As of November 11, 2024, Joker: Folie à Deux has made $204.7 million worldwide, with $58.2 million from the U.S. and Canada, and $146.5 million from other countries. With the break-even point estimated to be between $375 million and $450 million, the film is expected to lose Warner Bros. $125–200 million during its theater run.
