Following WandaVision, the Marvel series is essentially receiving two sequels. Agatha All Along has recently begun, and a Vision series is set to follow in 2026. These stories are important for the MCU; however, no direct follow-up has been confirmed about Wanda’s character and her journey following her apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Still, audiences hope for a return from the beloved hero. Unfortunately, it seems that many characters in the MCU would not wish for this to happen.
Scarlet Witch’s Ruined Reputation Is On Display In Agatha All Along
Graffiti In Westview Shows How The City Sees Wanda
Agatha All Along shows how the town of Westview has reacted to Wanda’s actions in WandaVision. Westview graffiti calling her an “Evil Witch” is seen painted on the foundation of Wanda and Vision’s home, showing how the character is seen by much of the town. Despite Wanda’s actions with the Avengers, it seems that her act of taking over Westview has been enough to ruin her reputation, at least in the town. Graffiti of her headpiece with a line through it is also on display.
WandaVision , Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the first two episodes of Agatha All Along are all streaming on Disney+.
The public opinion on Wanda has changed decisively in a very short period of time in the MCU. Wanda’s actions have been detrimental to so many lives, and were followed by a villainous turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These actions were twisted, but they do not entirely do away with the good that the hero has done in the universe. Still, it is quite hard to divorce her actions from her past.
Why Scarlet Witch Does And Doesn’t Deserve Her Ruined Reputation
Wanda Maximoff Has Been A Complex Character In The MCU
Scarlet Witch spent many years saving the world and deserves to have a better reputation than this. Her actions were borne out of horrible grief after losing the only person she loved. Following the loss of her parents as a child, then the loss of her brother, then the loss of Vision, her act of putting a hex on Westview has made her into a villain in many eyes. However, Wanda herself is a victim, and these heinous actions came out of her pain.
Tragedies Wanda Maximoff Experienced In The MCU
Major MCU Appearance
Tragic Event Endured
Avengers: Age of Ultron
HYDRA captivity and the loss of her brother, Pietro.
Captain America: Civil War
Inadvertently killing civilians and expediting the Sokovia Accords.
Avengers: Infinity War
Forced to kill Vision only for it to be rendered pointless.
WandaVision
Created a loving family with two children, only to give them all up.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Corrupted by the Darkhold, forced to recognize she can’t be with her children, and killed.
It is difficult to argue that Wanda doesn’t deserve her ruined reputation, as her actions were very hurtful to many people. Still, the hero has had a long and complex story in the MCU, and doesn’t deserve to only be defined by these actions. Much of Wanda’s story, from the Avengers films to Captain America: Civil War, points to a complex figure in the Marvel Universe. This culminates in disappointment that the character has disappeared from the universe.
Marvel Needs To Bring Back Scarlet Witch To Fix Her Reputation
Wanda’s Heelturn Was Effective But Tried To Undo Too Much
Scarlet Witch has done a lot of good in addition to all the bad, but unlike Iron Man – whose memorials were everywhere in Spider-Man: Far From Home – it seems the MCU has forgotten her importance to the events of the Avengers movies and that she was necessary to defeat Thanos. The character also destroys the Darkhold, which helps save the entire multiverse. While certain moments of darkness cannot be ignored, the character has also been an essential part of keeping the world safe. With Scarlet Witch’s status in the MCU, there is more to be explored.
Given all the speculation about Wanda’s return in Agatha All Along, it is clear that audiences want more from the character. Wanda’s death gave her a very compelling story in the MCU, but the character still has much more to tell. Ending Wanda’s journey with her as a villain seems to contradict much of what has been known about the character so far. It is essential that Marvel bring back the Scarlet Witch to rehabilitate her image.
The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is exciting, and with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the series, it seems that nearly any character could return with the right story. Elizabeth Olsen coming back as Scarlet Witch is something that audiences want dearly, and it will hopefully happen at some point. While the character’s reputation has been shown to be severely diminished in Agatha All Along, it is clear that Wanda deserves better than this. Hopefully, the MCU confronts this soon.
