After Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in No Time to Die, the James Bond franchise has been in search of Craig’s successor in the role. An announcement has yet to be made officially, but as you probably know, many names have been put forward over the years, including but not limited to Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland(???), a female star.
Not that long ago, we reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been offered the role and that the deal was as good as done. Since then, no official statements have been made and while we are still waiting for an official confirmation, the fans have become a bit quieter than before. Until recently.
On September 6, 2024, Netflix released the action thriller Rebel Ridge, which starred Aaron Pierre and after watching the movie, the fans have put yet another contender for the role, as they are convinced that Pierre deserves to lead the James Bond franchise after this performance.
The film was directed and written by Jeremy Saulnier and is gaining steam on Netflix, with the critics also satisfied, specifically praising Aaron Pierre’s stellar performance. In the movie, Pierre plays Terry Richmond, who is a former Marine who has the funds needed to post bail for his cousin unjustly seized via civil forfeiture by a corrupt police force.
And while everyone is in agreement that Pierre’s performance was absolutely amazing, some are going as far as claiming that he should take over the James Bond or Mission: Impossible franchises. The fans are divided on this, and here are some opinions from Facebook:
“He’s kind of his own thing now though right? He’d be a great bond but couldn’t they do an offshoot of the rebel ridge character being a new action super star?”
“Nope he doesn’t need to take anybody’s left overs. Netflix needs to build on the success of Rebel Ridge and make his character into his own sort of jack reacher franchise. Where his buddies just call him up for help and he puts that military expertise to good use.”
“I think he will be perfect for the role “
“Rebel ridge was a great flick for sure. Great storytelling has gone by the wayside for fast and furious style movies these days so this was a real treat. That being said I would rather see them stick to the character design Ian Fleming created and do something original with this gentleman.”
“Omg I watched this movie last night. It was horrible Just dragged on. It was like the action was about to start but never happened. In finally gave up a hour and 15 minutes in. Actor was alright but was emotionless. Almost like he was monologuing the whole movie.”
