It’s not uncommon for American Horror Story to bring in fresh actors to star alongside their alumni, and in the current season, American Horror Story: Delicate, one of these new players is Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as the character Nicolette.
American Horror Story: Delicate is the horror anthology series’ 12th season, and for the first time in the show’s history, it is adapted from a novel. “Delicate Condition” by Danielle Valentine follows a young actress named Anna who is determined to start a family, despite the strange occurrences that seem to be keeping her away from it. When Anna finally does become pregnant though, the weirdness only worsens.
Nicolette’s Role In American Horror Story: Delicate Explained

While these two pieces of information, Nicolette’s job and her recent motherhood, are somewhat small, they do raise questions about Nicolette’s role in the coming episodes. Despite being a smaller character right now, she could definitely play a bigger part later on in the series. The most significant reason for this is her recent pregnancy and birth. Much of the series follows Anna’s struggles with getting pregnant, and as she discovers that she has remained pregnant, despite what the doctors are telling her, Nicolette could swoop in to provide information or support. On the other hand, she could also be someone not to trust. Only time will tell.
What Did Nicolette Try To Give Anna in American Horror Story: Delicate?

One other major role that Nicolette plays in American Horror Story: Delicate is that she tries to give Anna something to help with her hormones. While at first this may seem like a kind and innocuous thing to do, delving deeper into Delicate and what it is based on makes this action much more suspicious. Danielle Valentine’s book “Delicate Condition” is often compared to the classic horror film Rosemary’s Baby, and in that film, a young woman becomes convinced that she is pregnant with something that is not of this world. The connection to Rosemary’s Baby makes Nicolette’s kind gesture parallel the nefarious dealings in that film.
Therefore, it could be possible that Nicolette is giving Anna something like tannis root, a fictional substance used in Rosemary’s Baby to control Rosemary during her pregnancy. If this is the case, that would mean that Nicolette is in on whatever conspiracy is surrounding Anna, and more than that, she is an active player in the situation. That would then confirm that Nicolette’s own experience with motherhood is a hint at her villainous ways. But, then again, Nicolette could also be genuinely offering a helpful hand, and in that case, her role is purposely suspicious to distract audiences.
Is Nicolette In The Delicate Condition Book?

It’s common for audiences to compare a series to its book counterpart to see where differences lie, and in the case of Nicolette, so far it seems like she is an original character to American Horror Story: Delicate. Danielle Valentine’s book has no mentions of a character named Nicolette, and at this point, there are no characters that fall into the role she has been playing either. However, this doesn’t mean that Nicolette definitely isn’t in the books. With American Horror Story: Delicate still in its beginning episodes, anything could happen with Nicolette, or with the rest of the cast.
