Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been in a legal battle since their divorce and even their winery business is now at stake. The ex-couple, who got married in 2014, broke up in 2016, and legally divorced since 2019, have been warned to settle their dispute outside the court unless they want their case to end up like Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s trial.
Following their disagreement involving the fine French winery, Château Miraval, a law expert shared wise advice not to bring their problem to court for one major reason.
Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Could Lose Their Winery Business According To A Lawyer
Speaking with US Weekly, Neama Rahmani noted that the case carries the same risk as Depp and Heard’s trial, whose previous drama created so much chaos all over the Internet. Rahmani said:
“There’s so many allegations. You’ve got family law, you’ve got custody, there’s allegations of abuse, and obviously, you have a very valuable chateau that the two are fighting over.”
The Babylon star filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife in February 2022 for selling her shares in their jointly-owned winery business despite agreeing that no one would sell their stakes unless approved by both parties. The actor mentioned that Jolie sold her shares to Yuri Shefler, the owner of Tenute del Mondo, as a means to bring emotional damage to him amid their children’s custody battle.
“What Brad is arguing here is there was an agreement — it seems like it’s the handwritten, back of the napkin type agreement — where Angelina said ‘I wouldn’t do it.’ But also, what he’s arguing here is, well, even if Angelina could sell to a third party, he had a right of first refusal. He could match any offer, and Angelina didn’t give him the opportunity to do so.”
“Apparently, he wants to retire there. I don’t think he wants to be sharing it or have a Russian oligarch as a roommate.”
The lawyer reiterated that the case, once it reaches the court, could end up becoming as messy as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial. In the end, when the court could not decide, Rahmani warned that they could order to sell it or auction it off to a third party.
Law Expert Advises Ex-Couple Not To Make Hasty Decisions
Château Miraval is a vineyard situated in the village of Correns in the South of France. Bought in 2011, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made a 50/50 partnership with winemaker Marc Perrin.
Rahmani stressed the importance of taking this problem seriously without making rash decisions:
“That’s not one of those situations where you’re a kid, and you draw a line in the middle of the room with your siblings. It’s hard if you’re in some sort of dispute with a co-owner of a big property.”
The legal expert concluded that “there’s a lot of money at stake” and “the allegations are serious” that a resolution might not happen anytime soon.
