It’s hard to remember a time when Hailey and Justin Bieber weren’t the reigning power couple of Hollywood. The cute duo have been in the public eye for a decade, when they were first spotted attending church together, but their relationship actually spans even further back in time.

Below, we’re charting Hailey and Justin’s complete relationship history, from fan meetings to marriage, and countless events in between.

November 2009: Justin and Hailey Bieber meet backstage at the Today show

Believe it or not, this cute couple date back to 2009, when they met briefly backstage at the Today Show, where Justin was performing. At the time, Hailey was just 13, while Justin was 15.

Luckily for us, the entire interaction was caught on camera. Who would’ve known that the pair would go on to be married just a few short years later?

Two years after their first meeting, Hailey lived out every Belieber’s dream, posing with Justin at his Never Say Never movie premiere in New York City.

Years later, Hailey reflected on the encounter to Vogue, telling the publication: “I was never a super fan, of him or of anyone. It was never that crazed, screaming thing. I didn’t think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him. But for the first few years we had a weird age gap.”

November, 2014: Hailey and Justin look friendly at Hillsong Church

Fast forward three years, and Hailey had graduated from fan to good friend of Justin. In November, 2014, the pair were spotted hanging out at a Hillsong Church in New York, alongside mutual friend Kendall Jenner.

In an interview with Vogue, Hailey explained that church was a pivotal component in their developing relationship. . “One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, ‘Hey, you got older.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren’t hanging out [romantically],” she said.

December, 2014: Justin Denies Relationship With Hailey

In December 2014, Justin responded to mounting speculation that his relationship with Hailey had turned romantic, insisting they were nothing more than good friends.

The singer took to Instagram to clear things up, posting a selfie with Hailey alongside the caption, “People are crazy. I’m super single and this is my good friend [you] would know otherwise.”

Despite this, later the same month, Justin rang in the New Year with a video shared to Instagram which, again, featured Hailey.

December 2015: Justin and Hailey Take Their Relationship To Mexico

While still yet to confirm they were anything more than friends, Justin and Hailey were spotted living it up in Tulum, Mexico, in December, 2015, alongside Justin’s father and siblings.

Controversially, this trip came just weeks after Justin was seen singing to long-time girlfriend Selena Gomez at a hotel in Beverly Hills.

December 31, 2015: Hailey and Justin Share Their First Public Kiss

Six years after their first meeting, Justin and Hailey were finally spotted kissing on New Year’s Eve in 2015. The kiss took place at Leonardo DiCaprio’s New Year’s Eve party in St. Barts – is there anywhere chicer to hard-launch a new relationship?

February 11, 2016: Hailey And Justin Say They Won’t Make Things Exclusive – Yet

A few short months later, both Hailey and Justin went on record saying they weren’t ready to make things official.

Speaking to GQ, Justin said, “I know that in the past I’ve hurt people and said things that I didn’t mean to make them happy in the moment. So now I’m just more so looking at the future, making sure I’m not damaging them.”

He added, “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard … I just don’t want to hurt her.”

For her part, Hailey told  E! News that they were “not an exclusive couple. He’s about to go on tour,” she said. “Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don’t really like to talk about it because it’s between me and him.”

2016: Justin And Hailey Split

Shrotly after Justin’s interview with GQ was published, the new couple reportedly parted ways.

At the time, the split was shrouded in mystery, but Hailey later clarified some details to Vogue, saying: “Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through.”

She continued, “‘Fizzled’ would not be the right word — it was more like a very dramatic excommunication. There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out.”

June 2018: Justin And Hailey Rekindle Their Romance

The setting for Hailey and Justin’s reconciliation was a church conference in Miami.

“The common denominator, I promise you, is always church,” Hailey later told Vogue. “By then we were past the drama. I just gave him a hug. By the end of the conference, he was like, ‘We’re not going to be friends.’ I was like, ‘We’re not?’ “

July 7, 2018: Hailey And Justin Get Engaged

Just a month after reconnecting, news broke that Hailey and Justin were engaged.

According to People, Justin, then 24, and Hailey, 21, got engaged in the Bahamas, while enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.

Two days later, Justin took to Instagram to confirm the happy news, writing, “Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindly.”

September 13, 2018: Justin And Hailey Tie The Knot In Civil Ceremony

The couple wasted no time making things official, and were spotted at a courthouse in Manhattan, with Hailey donning an all-white ensemble for the occasion.

November 16, 2018: Hailey Changes Her Name To ‘Bieber’ On Instagram

Hailey officially bid goodbye to her identity as a ‘Baldwin’, changing her social media handle to Hailey Rhode Bieber.

September 30, 2019: Justin And Hailey Throw Incredible Wedding

A full year on from their civil ceremony, Hailey and Justin hosted a lavish wedding ceremony in South Carolina. The event included 150 of their friends and family, and an impeccable Off White wedding gown.

May 2021: The Biebers Attend First Met Gala As Husband And Wife

The Biebers made their debut as a married couple at the Met Gala in 2021, and gave a lesson in coordinated dressing in the process. Hailey wore a Saint Laurent gown while Justin donned a sleek suit and Nike sneakers.

February 2022: Hailey Bieber Says Kids Aren’t On The Cards Yet

A few years into their marriage and Hailey responded to mounting speculation that she and husband Justin would be welcoming children soon.

“I think ideally in the next couple of years we would try,” the model told WSJ. Magazine.

“But there’s a reason they call it try, right? You don’t know how long that process is ever going to take. Definitely no kids this year; that would be a little bit hectic, I think.”

September 28, 2022: Hailey Bieber Clears The Air About Rumoured Feud With Selena Gomez

Hailey took an appearance on Alex Cooper’s podcast, Call Her Daddy, as an opportunity to shut down rumours that she stole Justin from ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that’s the end of it,” she said.

She also touched on the negative attention she had received since marrying Justin, explaining, “Well I think even for starters, even me talking about him, or talking about our relationship, people will take that and be like, ‘all she ever talks about is her relationship with him.’”

May 14, 2023: Hailey Bieber Says She Wants Kids With Justin Bieber “So Bad”

Hailey Bieber got very candid when speaking to The Sunday Times about the prospect of starting a family with her husband.

“I literally cry about this all the time. I want kids so bad but I get scared. It’s enough that people say things about my husband or my friends. I can’t imagine having to confront people saying things about a child.”

“There is something that’s disheartening about, damn, I can’t be bloated one time and not be pregnant? It would be a lie if I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I don’t give a s—,’ ” she told the publication. “When there comes a day that that is true, you, you as in the internet, will be the last to know.”
