Selena Gomez might not be a model, but her hit-back at body shaming critics prove why she is a true role model.
Disney star Selena Gomez is now one of the most influential and popular celebrities in the whole wide world. Known for her down-to-earth nature and candidness, the singer is also a businesswoman and a favorite of fans on social media. Often in the news for one thing or the other, suffice it to say, she has had her fair share of criticism for being in the limelight for so long.
Previously, it was her relationship with Justin Bieber, and now it is her weight that is regularly a topic of scrutinization among the many forums across the internet. But the singer/actress is not deterred by the constant criticism she faces, rather she simply does not care.
Selena Gomez Has No Care For Fans Criticizing Her Weight
Time and again a video would show up on our timelines comparing Selena Gomez‘s look during her Disney days and now. Such videos and topics seem to have become a staple of netizens who often enjoy discussing why she looks so different now (see Reddit).
Over the years, Gomez has clapped back at these talks and criticism but to no avail. Despite having Lupus, which severely affects the body and its functioning, many fans have often not paid heed to her talks and called her out for innumerable reasons such as gaslighting fans (see Reddit).
Yet, Gomez seems to have stopped caring at all. In an old TikTok live that was reposted on X, the singer stated,
“I tend to hold a lot of water weight and that happens very normally, and then when I’m off it I tend to kind of lose weight… Not a model, never will be. Thanks for supporting me and understanding and, if not… go away. Because honestly I don’t believe in shaming people for [their] body or anything.”
Adding on how she wants to encourage people to love themselves despite their looks, Gomez’s statement really proves why she is such an influential and among the most-followed celebrities in the world.

Selena Gomez has often spoken up about how there have been times she did not feel nice about herself. For instance, while doing the Life in Looks interview for Vogue, the actress revealed how she had felt insecure while attending the Met Gala in 2015.
But later on during another TikTok live (which was reposted on Instagram), Gomez seems to have adopted a more carefree nature about her looks, which her fans too have come to appreciate. While conversing with her fans, the actress stated,
“So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box, and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings, and a spicy chicken sandwich. But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people bitch about it anyway. ‘You’re too small,’ ‘you’re too big,’ ‘that doesn’t fit.’ ‘Meh meh meh meh.’ B*tch, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye.”
And so despite the constant scrutiny and criticism, the Who Says hitmaker continues to inspire millions of people around the world to love themselves and embrace their true selves.
