An unlikely pairing, but that’s what I see

Project Mugen, originally revealed at last year’s Gamescom, has been rebranded.

The free-to-play RPG will now go by the moniker ANANTA, with a fresh trailer showcasing its high energy gameplay.

Boasting an anime aesthetic, you might think that, at a glance, ANANTA is akin to something like Genshin Impact or Zenless Zone Zero.

And, of course, that’s not a totally wrong assumption but it’s not the first comparison I’d make.

In fact, ANANTA appears to be much more in line with Grand Theft Auto VI and the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, blending frenetic and violent car chases with city-swinging action.

And no, I don’t quite understand why these characters can swing like Spider-Man but I won’t be complaining about it either.

See? GTA VI meets Marvel’s Spider-Man sounds like an unlikely duo but seconds into the trailer and you’ll get that, “Oh, I see it,” moment.

This trailer has undoubtedly left me with a lot of questions, not just about the swinging.

Did you also see the rideable legged toilet … bizarre.

ANANTA comes from developer Naked Rain and is set to be published by NetEase.

As for the official synopsis, “Welcome to Nova, the sun-soaked coastal hub that’s perfect for ditching winter,” it reads.

“This city is electric – whether you’re street surfing in Paradox Plaza or pulling marathon gaming sessions at Glimmergold, there’s never a dull moment. And with humans and Chaos living side by side, you never know what crazy twists your adventure might take.”

As I said, the game is set to be free-to-play so it’ll likely include microtransactions, and it currently remains without a release date.

What we do know is that it’s in development for PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android.
