Wicked is currently a major hit in theaters. This musical, based on the famous musical of the same name, as well as on the lauded but controversial book, became an even bigger hit than the media had predicted and fans around the world are now enjoying the movie and cannot wait for the sequel, which is coming out this time next year.

Of course, Wicked has had its fair share of controversies, but when compared to some recent titles, it has been quite mild, and no one is really concerned about the movie’s future, which is looking very good from where we’re standing.

The cast of the movie has been praised and as interest in the people involved is growing, the fans are just discovering that most of the cast (especially the younger cast members) are members of the LGBTQ+ community. For some reason, this has become the talking point of the internet.

In case you did not know, yes, a lot of cast members from the film are actually members of the LGBTQ+ community and have openly disclosed their sexuality in the media, so we’re not quite sure why people are this surprised. Cynthia Erivo, the movie’s star, is the first notable member of the LGBTQ+ community (bisexual, to be precise), confirming in an old interview for The Standard: “It’s not necessarily autobiographical, but I am queer.” As of the time of writing, Erivo is dating actress and producer Lena Waithe.

Next, we have Jonathan Bailey, who is playing Fiyero Tigelaar in the movie. Bailey has been openly gay since 2018, although he had admitted it to his friends and family about a decade earlier; he has discussed the topic in several interviews and is the second-most prominent LGBTQ+ cast member from the film.

Pfannee actor Bowen Yang is also an openly gay man, having revealed that his parents discovered this via an open chat window during his teens. LGBTQ+ topics are a relevant part of his comedy career and he has been discussing the issues of the community openly for some time now.

Marissa Bode appears as Nessarose Thropp and the Wisconsin actress is also a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Since 2023, as has been confirmed, she has been in a relationship with her partner Lauren Brooks.

Bronwyn James is the next name on the list. In the movie, she plays Shenshen, one of Gisella’s college friends, and the English actress has been married to married to Katherine-Alice, founder of the Yorkshire-based nonprofit Hearts Collective, which promotes accessibility in the arts, since 2023.

Finally, we have Sharon D. Clarke, the oldest cast member on this list. Clarke’s private life is not really known to the public, but we can confirm that the actress has been married to Susie McKenna for some time now.
