Period drama fans can now stream a ‘gorgeous’ film based on a ‘remarkable’ bestselling novel.

BBC iPlayer has just added The Last Letter From Your Lover, based on the Jojo Moyes novel of the same name. Moyes is also behind the hugely popular romance drama Me Before You, but fans likely missed her 2021 adaptation.

It boasts an impressive cast including two-time Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, Divergent’s Shailene Woodley, Eternity actor Callum Turner and Nabhaan Rizwan, who recently appeared in Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.

We follow ambitious journalist Ellie Haworth (Jones), who discovers a string of secret love letters from 1965 and sets out to uncover the illicit affair at their centre.

She soon uncovers a steamy romance between the wife of a wealthy businessman (Woodley), and a financial journalist (Turner) assigned to cover her husband.
As she explores the decades-old affair, Ellie stumbles into her own love story with endearing archivist Rory McCallan (Rizwan), who helps her track down more letters.
While it didn’t impress critics upon its release, the romance drama is still highly recommended by viewers. It earned a solid 79% rating from Rotten Tomatoes audiences, while reviewers only awarded it a 55% score.
Sharing their verdict, one person said: “I never lost interest in the plot. The costumes and scenery were gorgeous. And I cried at the end. What more could you want? It’s a love story.”
