“There’s a lot of dramatic terrain yet to explore,” Holt McCallany tells T&C.

If you’ve already binge-watched all eight episodes of The Waterfront—based on creator Kevin Williamson’s family—you may be wondering if the North Carolina drama is returning for a second season.
While Netflix has yet to officially renew The Waterfront for a season two, the creators and cast have spoken with confidence about the possibility.

“I want to do it, and I know that Kevin wants to do it and so does the rest of the cast,” actor Holt McCallany told T&C. “There’s a lot of dramatic terrain yet to explore, and Kevin is a prolific writer with a lot of ideas; he’s also said to me, ‘I’m so glad that we got to know each other over the course of season one because now in season two, I’m going to be able to write for you even better.’ So, I hope we’ll be renewed but there are no guarantees in show business. Are there interesting stories for these characters to explore in upcoming seasons? Absolutely. An infinite number of them.”

For his part, creator Kevin Williamson has plans for season two (and beyond). “I’ve just sort of figured out who these actors are in these roles, and I would love a chance to write for them, and lean into them, and I think the show can just go up. There’s a whole second season that I have planned out, and a third season, quite frankly,” he told Screen Rant. “I’m hoping I get the chance to tell those stories. I do think it’s a fun show, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever done, and I just hope people enjoy it.”
