The Love on the Spectrum stars, who met on the first season of the Netflix reality show in 2021, have split after five years of dating, The U.S. Sun was first to report the breakup.

“Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other,” Romeo, Isaacman and their families shared in a joint statement exclusively to PEOPLE. “At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends wishing each other the best.”

Abbey and David have appeared on all four seasons of the series, marking their first date at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on July 12, 2021. They were the show’s longest-standing couple.

During season 4, Abbey told Love on the Spectrum producers that “neither one of us are ready to get married” and that they felt they were “already married in our hearts.”

“I don’t want to be a divorced lady like my mom, so that’s why I don’t want to rush it, take my time to get married,” she said.

After learning of costars Madison Marilla and Tyler White’s engagement, Abbey proclaimed, “Hopefully we’re next!” The pair had discussed tying the knot at the San Diego Zoo, with Abbey later telling Buzzfeed in April 2025 that they wanted to “get married in Kenya, Maasai Mara [National Reserve].”

Abbey and her mother, Christine, also opened up about what marriage could look like for the couple as individuals with Autism during an appearance on The Unplanned Podcast in March 2025.

“It doesn’t have to be in the traditional sense of what a neurotypical person would make it look like,” Christine recalled telling Abbey. “You can have your place, he can still have his place. You can still do what you do until you’re ready to move in together … so that they can make that commitment without having it to upheaval everything else.”

Abbey told We Need to Talk in March 2026 that she and David often enjoyed visiting places together, including the L.A. Zoo, Disneyland, Universal Studios and the Griffith Observatory, while explaining how he supports her. “He says things that make me feel good [and] he covers my ears when there’s a certain noise I don’t like,” she said.

The duo marked their four-year anniversary on July 12, 2025, when Abbey posted a clip to Instagram of David giving her an anniversary gift. They returned to the San Diego Zoo to celebrate.

Abbey last shared a clip of David to Instagram in December 2025, when they visited Universal Studios. “We’ve loved having an annual pass,” she captioned the video of them dancing.
