JUST IN — Longmire rides again. The legendary Western crime saga returns for Season 7 (2025), and this time, justice comes with scars. Walt Longmire is pulled out of retirement when a new wave of violence rocks Absaroka County, forcing him to confront the ghosts he thought he’d buried.
Robert Taylor returns with that unshakable grit, Katee Sackhoff’s Vic faces her most painful choices yet, and Henry Standing Bear stands between two worlds — holding onto tradition as the modern frontier closes in.
Every secret surfaces. Every line blurs. And when the dust settles, one truth remains — you can take off the badge, but you can’t outrun justice.

Johnson responded in a Facebook post to the news that Longmire is soon leaving Netflix, with its last day being December 31. The author mentioned that Paramount+ was the new home of the Western, though he also criticized Netflix’s decision. Johnson mentioned that Longmire still drew good viewership and revealed that he was canceling his Netflix subscription. In the post, which is included below, Johnson also teased reviving the Western after the recent streaming changes:
So, I’m to understand that Netflix is officially dropping Longmire from its lineup at the end of the year even though the show is still alive and well in the ratings. I hear its been picked up by Paramount+ and I’m just curious to see if Warner Brothers, now free from the sweetheart deal with Netflix, will finally consider reviving the show… Interesting times. I have to admit that I took a great deal of satisfaction cancelling my Netflix subscription when I got to the box where they asked why and I simply wrote… LONGMIRE.

Netflix Rescued The Show At One Point

Given the fact that Netflix’s rights for Longmire expired, Paramount+ makes sense as a new home. Paramount airs Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, which revived the genre, and Paramount+ streams the spinoffs 1883 and 1923. It may be the case that Longmire will flourish on its new streaming platform, finally propelling a revival that has been discussed before but never materialized. Paramount may be more willing to revive the adaptation, considering the increased interest in Westerns.
Our Take On Longmire’s Future

Spurred by the success of Yellowstone, Netflix is in the process of launching several Westerns of different variations, whether they are more action-based or romantic and soapy. Those shows have, for the most part, yet to debut. American Primeval is one example, starring GLOW‘s Betty Gilpin and Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch. It’s set for 2025 and could make a splash. Paramount+ is very much a hub for Westerns and more action-focused dramas, though, which should bode well for Longmire in the long run.
