‘Peaky Blinders’ Picks Up Two-Season Renewal Beyond ‘The Immortal Man’ Film
Netflix and the BBC are working on the series that’ll tell the story of “a new generation of Shelbys”

The Shelby family is back. Netflix and the BBC have officially announced two brand-new Peaky Blinders series from creator and writer Steven Knight, marking the start of a new chapter for one of Britain’s most beloved dramas. These are expected to be continuations from The Immortal Man, which has reportedly been pushed from its original 2025 release date into 2026.
Following the upcoming Peaky Blinders feature film, which is currently in post-production, the new shows will introduce a fresh generation of Shelbys navigating post-war Birmingham as the city rebuilds itself after WWII. It’s not labeled season 7 by either Netflix or the BBC, but rather being treated as a full-blown sequel series.
No release dates have been announced yet, but filming is expected to begin in Birmingham in the coming months. Given Netflix’s involvement, both new Peaky Blinders series will stream globally on Netflix, while airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and presumably being licensed to Netflix, like all prior seasons, down the line.
The news of a continuation beyond The Immortal Man has been bubbling away for quite some time, with The Sun first reporting that a new series is planned this Spring. When we reached out to Netflix, they declined to comment but promised they’d keep us posted…
Set in 1953, the next era of Peaky Blinders finds Birmingham rising from the ashes of wartime destruction. As Britain looks toward a modern future built on concrete and steel, a new battle emerges over control of the city’s massive reconstruction. Opportunity and danger walk hand in hand, and at the blood-soaked center of it all stands the Shelby family.
The reason for the shift in focus, we’re told, will become immediately clear upon the film’s arrival. We don’t want to delve into spoilers, but let’s say there are some dramatic events about to unfold… One source previously told us that Barry Keoghan’s character will potentially play a central role in any new series.
Both new series will be produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, House of Guinness, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama (which produced Peaky Blinders seasons 1–6 and the upcoming film). Filming will take place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, Steven Knight’s production hub in the Midlands.
Each season will consist of six one-hour episodes.
The executive producers are Steven Knight and Cillian Murphy, alongside Karen Wilson and Martin Haines (Kudos), Jamie Glazebrook (Garrison Drama), Jo McClellan (BBC), and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley (Netflix). Production is supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). It marks the first commission under a new partnership between the BBC, WMCA, and Create Central aimed at expanding TV production in the region.

Creator and writer Steven Knight, who just delivered the new Netflix series House of Guinness, said in a statement today, “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
Mona Qureshi, Director of UK Series for Netflix, added, “We couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders with our wonderful partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama and the BBC. There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, said, “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago, and it remains one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas. Steven has worked his magic once again, and we can’t wait to see his scripts brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham.”
Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, commented, “Peaky Blinders is one of the most iconic, era-defining dramas of our time and Banijay UK is delighted to be helping to bring Steven Knight’s vision for the epic next chapters to life. Made by a brilliant new production partnership, led by Karen Wilson at Kudos, with Jamie Glazebrook from Garrison Drama, the story of the next generation of Shelbys will grip Peaky fans old and new.”
