Buckingham Palace revealed that the former Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will be able to keep Queen Elizabeth’s corgis as they prepare to leave Royal Lodge

Andrew and Sarah are going to live separately after leaving the Royal Lodge at Windsor, where they’ve lived for many years
As the former Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, face major changes in their private lives due to Andrew being stripped of his royal titles and residence, one thing will stay the same.
In a statement to The Independent on Friday, Oct. 31, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the former couple’s corgis, who previously belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth, will stay with them after they move out of the Royal Lodge at Windsor.
The pair had been living together in the large home for many years, despite their 1996 divorce. However, it’s expected that Sarah will now move into her own residence and “forge an independent life.”
In their statement about the dogs, Muick and Sandy, the palace said, “The corgis will remain with the family,” leaving it open-ended as far as who the corgis will live with: Andrew, 65, Sarah, 66, or possibly one of their daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, or Princess Eugenie, 35, and their families.

Sarah and Andrew took in Sandy and Muick after the Queen died in 2022. The late monarch was a lover of animals, especially horses and dogs, and owned more than 30 corgis and “dorgi” mixes over the course of her life. Muick and Sandy were the only two to outlive her and were present at her funeral on Sept. 19, 2022.
Last month, Sarah paid tribute to the Queen on the third anniversary of her death by sharing a photo of her beloved dogs on Instagram.
“Her Majesty will be forever loved, always missed, and never forgotten,” she captioned the pic. “Not a day goes by when I don’t think of the kindness I was unstintingly shown in good times and bad. Caring for Her Majesty’s beloved corgis is an honor and a daily reminder of the times we shared together.”
Sarah opened up about adopting the dogs in an exclusive PEOPLE interview in March 2023.
“They are national icons, so every time they run chasing a squirrel, I panic,” she shared at the time. “But they’re total joys, and I always think that when they bark at nothing, and there’s no squirrels in sight, I believe it’s because the Queen is passing by.”

On Thursday, Oct. 30, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles was officially removing Andrew’s royal titles. The King’s younger brother will no longer be a prince or His Royal Highness, and he was also formally ordered to surrender his lease at Royal Lodge. He will instead be moving into an unnamed property on the royal family’s privately-owned Sandringham estate.
“Contrary to reports, she has never asked for a property or any provision for herself,” the source added. “She will continue to forge an independent life.”
The move is the latest fallout for the former couple comes amid renewed scrutiny of their past ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The latest development, which may have sealed their fate with the Palace, was the publishing of two emails to Epstein, one each from Sarah and Andrew.
Andrew’s message, according to The Mail on Sunday and The Sun on Sunday, was sent in 2011, the day The Mail on Sunday published the infamous picture of him with his arm around Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, who also accused him of sexual assault. Andrew has repeatedly denied the accusations and settled out of court with Giuffre, who died by suicide in April 2025.
In his email to Epstein, the former prince reportedly wrote, “I’m just as concerned for you! Don’t worry about me! It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it.”
“Otherwise, keep in close touch, and we’ll play some more soon!!!!” he added, before signing off with “A, HRH The Duke of York, KG.” The publication of this email revealed that he had lied publicly about cutting off ties with the billionaire in 2010.
In Sarah’s email, also published by The Sun and The Mail on Sunday, she apologized to Epstein for publicly disowning him in a March 2011 interview with the Evening Standard. In the interview, she said she’d made a “terrible, terrible error of judgment” in accepting money from him, and also referenced the accusations of sexual misconduct against him, saying, “I abhor paedophilia.”
The email revealed that Sarah backtracked the following month in a message to Epstein, calling him a “steadfast, generous and supreme friend.”
“As you know, I did not, absolutely not, say the P [pedophile] word about you,” she reportedly wrote. “I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. And I must humbly apologise to you and your heart for that. You have always been a steadfast, generous and supreme friend to me and my family.”
The Palace’s statement stripping Andrew of his titles included a pointed reference about Andrew and Sarah’s connections to Epstein: “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” it concluded, referring to King Charles and Queen Camilla
