Just as Louis Theroux’s Inside the Manosphere documentary is dominating Netflix charts, Deadline has reported that Nicola Coughlan will appear in the next season of Channel 4’s anthology series I Am.
The show is set to feature standalone episodes that dive into relatable issues faced by modern women.
Coughlan’s instalment, titled I Am Helen, will take a look at the controversial corner of the internet known as the manosphere. It is composed of popular male influencers who claim they can teach young men to lead successful lives.
Their views have attracted backlash for promoting outdated gender roles, with figures such as Andrew Tate and HS TikkyTokky being associated with the controversial movement.

Irish actress Coughlan will star opposite Peaky Blinders actor Joe Cole, who plays her love interest.
While the plot details are still under wraps, it will reportedly centre on how toxic online content can affect modern relationships. Deadline has teased that the central conflict of the story will revolve around Cole’s character falling deep into the manosphere and the toxic behaviour that follows.
The Daily Mirror has reached out to Channel 4 for comment.

Although Theroux’s documentary has earned overwhelming praise, critics have questioned its male-centred approach to the conversation. Viewers hear only briefly from women in relationships with men from the manospherespace , but some fans have complained that there isn’t much focus on how the movement impacts women more broadly.
Netflix previously exposed the brutal realities of the online movement in the hit drama Adolescence, which followed a young man who had been influenced by a branch of the manosphere. But the Emmy-winning show also failed to centre young women’s experiences.
It sounds like Channel 4 will be tackling viewers’ concerns with this female-led series, which has yet to receive a release date.
